1. In New Delhi, India’s first Khadi Centre of Excellence was opened.
◉ Narayan Rane, the Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, will open the first Khadi Centre of Excellence in New Delhi.
◉ With the purpose of enabling Khadi Institutions across the country, the Ministry of MSME has established a Centre for Experimentation, Innovation, and Design for the Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC).
2. For fodder growing farmers in Haryana, the ‘Chaara-Bijaee Yojana’ was started.
◉ Haryana Agriculture Minister Jai Parkash Dalal announced the launch of the ‘Chaara – Bijaee Yojana,’ a scheme that will enable farmers to cultivate and deliver fodder to Gaushalas with the financial support of Rs 10,000 per acre (up to 10 acres) (Cowsheds).
◉ The plan is intended to alleviate the state’s feed deficit and expand the stray cattle population. Under Direct Benefit Transfer, the subsidy will be credited straight to the farmers’ account (DBT).
3. President Ram Nath Kovind bestows 13 Shaurya Chakras and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Indian Army Chief President
◉ Ram Nath Kovind bestows 13 Shaurya Chakras, six of which are posthumous, to members of the Indian Armed Forces for their exceptional bravery demonstrated during operations.
◉ At a defense investiture event at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Army Chief General Manoj Pande was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) for exemplary service of extraordinary order.
4. In Mumbai, India’s first food waste-powered electric vehicle charging station was unveiled.
◉ At Keshavrao Khadye Road near Haji Ali in Mumbai, Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray launched the country’s first organic waste-powered EV charging station.
◉ The station will produce 220 units of power from food waste collected in the surrounding region, primarily from big generators such as hotels and offices. This station also serves as a charging station for electric vehicles.

5. South Korea joins the NATO Cyber Defense Group as the first Asian country.
◉ South Korea is the first Asian country to join the Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The National Intelligence Service (NIS) of South Korea has joined the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence as a contributing participant.
◉ The NATO CCDCOE now has 32 formal members, with 27 NATO member countries and 5 non-NATO governments contributing as contributing participants. South Korea took part in Locked Shields 2022, the world’s largest and most complicated biennial international live-fire cyber defence exercise.
6. After weeks of protests, Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister resigned.
◉ On May 9, 2022, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapaksa announced his resignation. He handed in his resignation letter to Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He is accused of deceiving the Sri Lankan economy and pushing the country into bank corruption and economic turmoil.

◉ Bharti AXA Life Insurance has launched its ‘InspiHE-Enabling an empowered future’ financial literacy campaign. It is a unique programme aimed at raising financial knowledge among women in order to help them make sound financial decisions for a secure future.
◉ The campaign was launched on May 8, 2022, to coincide with “International Mother’s Day” and ahead of the “International Day of Families” (May 15, 2022).
8. ICICI Bank has teamed with Santander UK to make doing business in India and the United Kingdom easier.
◉ ICICI Bank has partnered with London-based Santander UK Plc in a deal aimed at making banking easier for businesses operating in both countries.
