1. In Rajasthan, the Maru Mahotsav or Jaisalmer Desert Festival is held.
- The legendary Jaisalmer Desert Festival, also known as the Maru Mahotsav of the Golden City, took place in Pokaran village in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, from February 13 to February 16, 2022.
- The occasion was kicked off by Rajasthan Minority Affairs Minister Shale Mohammad. The festival is held on the Sam dunes, which are located in the Thar Desert (42 kilometres from Jaisalmer).
2. In Bihar, Nitin Gadkari opened a 14.5-kilometer rail-road bridge over the Ganga River.
- Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, jointly inaugurated a 14.5-kilometer rail-road bridge over the Ganga River in Munger, Bihar.
- It was built at a cost of Rs 696 crores on National Highway 333B. It will eliminate traffic congestion, save fuel, and speed up traffic while lowering costs.
3. The government has approved Rs 24 crores for the cleanup of the Gomati River in order to improve the Indo-Bangla canal project.
- The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has approved Rs 24.53 crore for the cleanup of the Gomati, a transboundary river between India and Bangladesh, as well as the construction of ten jetties for the Indo-Bangla Waterway Project.
- From Udaipur in the Gomati district of Tripura to Sonamura in Tripura, ten floating jetties will be built. The Indian Inland Waterways Authority will assist the local government with the strategic project.
4. Dabur India became the first FMCG company in India to be completely plastic waste free.
- Dabur India Limited (Dabur), a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firm in India, has declared that it has become the country’s first 100 percent plastic waste-free corporation.
- Dabur is the first FMCG brand to do this. Dabur is a ‘Plastic Garbage Neutral’ firm because it collects, processes, and recycles the same amount of plastic waste that is sold in its product packaging in a year.
5. The Finance Ministry has allocated Rs 1154.90 crores to AP, Bihar, Gujarat, and Sikkim’s Urban Local Bodies.
- The Ministry of Finance’s Department of Expenditure has released Rs 1154.90 crore to four states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Sikkim, for grants to Urban Local Bodies.
- These funds are intended for cities with populations of less than a million people, including Cantonment Boards. In its report for the years 2021-22 to 2025-26, the 15th Finance Commission separated urban local bodies into two categories.

6. Burkina Faso’s President, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, has been sworn in.
- Following the military coup in Burkina Faso, the military junta named lieutenant colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba as the country’s interim president.
- On January 24, 2022, a military coup led by Damiba took place in Burkina Faso. President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo were then removed from office, and the parliament and constitution were declared null and void.

7. The CBI has charged Gujarat-based ABG Shipyard Limited with India’s largest-ever bank fraud case, worth Rs 22,842 crores.
- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged ABG Shipyard with a financial crime worth Rs 22,842 crores, making it the largest bank fraud case in history. The company was involved in money laundering, misappropriation, and criminal breach of trust.
- The flagship company of the ABG Group is ABG Shipyard. It defrauded a group of 28 banks and financial institutions in the amount of Rs 22,842 crores. This is the largest bank fraud case the CBI has ever investigated.
8. The MoSPI expects the GDP deflator to be 3-3.5 percent in FY23.
- The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) forecasted a 3 to 3.5 percent deflator for India’s gross domestic product (GDP) in FY23.
- The government’s official real GDP growth projection for FY23 is 7.6-8.1 percent, whereas the union budget forecasts nominal GDP growth of 11.1 percent. The Budget’s GDP projection is based on preliminary data from the ‘National Statistical Office’ (NSO).
9. In January, retail inflation climbed to 6.01 percent, barely beyond the RBI’s upper limit.
- India’s retail inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), increased to 6.01 percent in January, slightly exceeding the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) tolerance limit of 6%.
- Higher consumer goods and telecom prices, as well as a comparatively low rate a year ago, contributed to the increase in inflation print.

11. Air India has named Ilker Ayci as its new MD and CEO.
- Tata Sons has named Ilker Ayci, the former Chairman of Turkish Airlines, as the new MD and CEO of Air India, and he will take over on or before April 1, 2022.
- Ilker Ayci was born in Istanbul and studied political science and public administration at Bilkent University in 1994. He was appointed Chairman of Turkish Airlines in 2015.

12. Indian Railways is planning to build the country’s largest wrestling academy.
- The Indian Railways Ministry has sanctioned the establishment of a state-of-the-art wrestling academy in Kishanganj, Delhi.
- The wrestling academy will be India’s largest and most advanced, with the goal of promoting the sport of wrestling throughout the country. The project is expected to cost Rs 30.76 crores to complete.

13. The Indian Air Force will display the LCA Tejas at the Singapore Air Show in 2022.
- At the four-day Singapore Air Show 2022, the Indian Air Force will display Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA). Low-level aerobatics will be performed by the LCA Tejas to demonstrate its superior handling and manoeuvrability.
- The Indian Air Force (IAF) will participate in the Show-2022 with a 44-member contingent. During the occasion, the IAF will display its indigenous Tejas MK-I ac. It will also communicate with RSAF (Royal Singapore Air Force) colleagues and other participating contingents.
