1. Launch of Project Gajah Kotha in Assam
◉ Assam has started the “Gajah Kotha” campaign, involving more than 1,200 people and encouraging peace, in an effort to lessen the growing human-elephant conflict (HEC) problem.
◉ The goal of this programme, which is focused on HEC-affected areas in eastern Assam, is to inform locals about the ecology, behaviour, and cultural significance of elephants in the area while highlighting the value of conservation.
◉ This initiative, spearheaded by Aaranyak, a well-known Guwahati-based wildlife NGO, demonstrates their commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence between people and elephants. They worked together with the British Asian Trust, the Assam Forest Department, and the Darwin Initiative on it.
2. The third Sherpa G20 summit got underway in Hampi, Karnataka.
◉ The third Sherpas summit is being held in Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Karnataka, India, as part of India’s G20 Presidency. Amitabh Kant will serve as the meeting’s chair.
◉ The Ministry of Cultural and External Affairs, which is organising the summit, expects to have more than 200 participants from 43 different nations.
3. (ABSS) Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
◉ Southern Railway has identified 90 stations for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which is a key step towards improving the amenities at railway stations.
◉ The plan’s objectives include creating master plans for these stations and implementing them gradually.
◉ The Southern Railway network’s six divisions have identified a total of 15 stations for development, for a total of 90 stations.

◉ During his trip to India this week for G20 activities, EIB Vice-President Kris Peeters will confirm the lender’s interest in granting the credit.

7. Report on the Export Preparedness Index (EPI), 2022
◉ On July 17, 2023, NITI Aayog is scheduled to issue the third iteration of the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) for States/UTs of India for the year 2022.
◉ Taking into account the global trade environment in FY22, this index evaluates the export performance of Indian states and UTs.
◉ The research provides a district-level examination of merchandise exports in the nation and emphasises the need of developing districts as export centres.
8. The amount of foreign exchange reserves has increased by $1.23 billion to a near 2-month high.
◉ According to information from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign exchange (forex) reserves climbed by $1.229 billion, reaching a total of $596.280 billion.
◉ This is a nearly 2-month high and the second straight week that reserves have increased. While special drawing rights (SDRs) saw a little decline, the expansion in foreign currency assets (FCA) and gold reserves were the main drivers of the increase in reserves.
