Current Affairs of 17th February – National News


1. 470 aircraft were purchased by Air India from Airbus and Boeing.
◉ Tata-owned Air India has officially announced a deal with Airbus and Boeing to purchase 470 wide- and narrow-body aircraft.
◉ 250 of the 470 new aeroplanes Air India has bought are from Airbus and 220 are from Boeing.
◉ The two agreements include the purchase of 210 Airbus A320 and A321neo, 40 Airbus A350, 20 Boeing 787, and 10 Boeing 777-9 wide-body aircraft, as well as 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft. The majority of these new aircraft will start to arrive starting in mid-2025, with the first one entering service in late 2023.
◉ The aircraft sale is worth more than $70 billion at the list price.

2. In December 2022, India’s industrial production index rises 4.3%.
◉ The Industrial Production (IIP) index for India increased by 4.3 per cent in December 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
◉ From April to December of the current fiscal year 2022–23, it increased by 5.4%.
◉ Production in the manufacturing sector increased by 2.6 per cent in December 2022, while power production increased by 10.4 per cent and mining output surged by 9.8 per cent.
◉ The Quick Estimates of IIP with base 2011–12 are 144.7 for the month of December 2022.

3. World Tech Summit conducted in Visakhapatnam for two days
◉ The two-day Global Tech Summit (GTS) on February 16–17 marks the start of a series of G-20 business and technology activities.
◉ Several representatives from the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and technology sectors may attend the GTS to talk about the most recent trends and breakthroughs happening all around the world.
◉ According to Srinubabu Gedela, CEO of Pulsus Group and co-convener of the GTS, there will be close to 1,000 delegates in attendance from more than 25 nations.

5. In an agreement to provide financial services, ICICI Bank and BNP Paribas
◉ To meet the banking needs of European corporations doing business in India, ICICI Bank and BNP Paribas have inked a Memorandum of Understanding.
◉ It creates a framework for the collaboration between the two banks to offer financial services to Indian-based business clients.
◉ One of the top international financial companies, BNP Paribas Group, has been operating in India since 1860.

6. The UPI LITE feature is the first to be introduced by Paytm Payments Bank.
◉ As the first payments bank to do so, Paytm Payments Banks Limited (PPBL) has introduced the UPI LITE feature for numerous small-value UPI transactions.
◉ As the bank works to promote the use of digital payments throughout the nation, the UPI LITE feature will make real-time transactions faster and easier to complete with just one click through Paytm.
◉ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced the feature, which was created by the NPCI, in September 2022.
◉ The minor value transactions would no longer appear in the bank passbook but just in the Paytm balance and history area.

7. Two more female cricketers have been appointed as ambassadors by Hyundai Motor India.
◉ Yastika Bhatia and Renuka Singh Thakur are two more female cricketers who Hyundai Motor India Limited has added to its roster of brand ambassadors.
◉ Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues will now be joined by Bhatia and Thakur on the list of Hyundai brand ambassadors.
◉ The organization claimed that it recognized these ladies as up-and-coming athletes and that they will act as a catalyst for the 2023 women’s cricket season.
◉ With these five female cricket players, Hyundai Motor India has unveiled the next iteration of its “The Drive Within” campaign.

8. The Swaraj Award for Best District Panchayat was awarded to the Kollam district.
◉ The Swaraj Trophy for the State’s top district panchayat for the fiscal year 2021–22 has been awarded to Kerala’s Kollam district panchayat.
◉ The Kerala panchayat of the Kannur district came in second.
◉ The trophy for the best corporation was won by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
◉ The prize for the finest grama panchayat in the State went to the Mulanthuruthy grama panchayat, with Pappinissery and Marangattupilly grama panchayats taking second and third, respectively.

9. In Chennai, the sixth iteration of the India-US exercise TARKASH came to an end.
◉ The National Security Guard (NSG) and the US Special Operations Force have finished the sixth iteration of their joint exercise TARKASH in Chennai (SOF).
◉ This exercise is the first to integrate “Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Terror Response.”
◉ The drill also included a simulation of a chemical or biological attack by terrorists. The drill now includes chemical and biological assaults against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

11. Javed Khan, an actor Amrohi perished.
◉ At the age of 60, veteran actor Javed Khan Amrohi passed away.
◉ His performances in movies like Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Chak De India, Lagaan, and Andaz Apna Apna made him well-known.
◉ For his roles in the well-liked DD series Nukkad, he was best known.
◉ The 1990s blockbuster movies Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Laadla, and Ishq, as well as the 1988 TV series Mirza Ghalib, are among Amrohi’s other significant works.
