1. Varanasi will serve as the first SCO culture and tourism capital.
◉ The SCO will name Varanasi its inaugural Cultural and Tourism Capital for the years 2022–2023.
◉ Zhang Ming, the bloc’s secretary general, made the announcement.
◉ The eight-member group has a new rotational effort to encourage interstate travel and interpersonal interactions.
2. Bundelkhand Expressway was opened by PM Modi in Uttar Pradesh.
◉ In the Uttar Pradesh district of Jalaun, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Bundelkhand expressway, which will likely improve the area’s connectivity and industrial growth.
◉ The 296 km long, four-lane expressway was built for about Rs. 14,850 crores.
◉ On February 29, 2020, the Prime Minister lay the project’s cornerstone. Within 28 months, the expressway’s construction was finished.
3. Apex Committee for Performance and Efficiency Audit established by Defense Ministry
◉ To conduct a “performance and efficiency” audit of capital purchases, logistics, inventory, and maintenance of assets of the armed services, the defense ministry has established an apex committee.
◉ The group, led by the defense secretary, will offer Rajnath Singh, the minister of defense, recommendations on ways to tighten internal control and the risk management framework across a range of ministry operations.
◉ Vice Chiefs of the three Services, the Secretary of Defense (Finance), the Chief of the Integrated Staff Committee, the Controller General of Defence Accounts, the Director General (Acquisition), and others are members of the committee.
4. Google and NASSCOM collaborated on the DigiVaani Call Center.
◉ In order to assist women farmers in growing their businesses, the Nasscom Foundation has teamed with Google to open a call centre in association with the nonprofit Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP). The DigiVaani Call Center is what it is called.
◉ Goal: Assist female farmers in expanding their operations.
◉ In the beginning, the project would target 20,000 rural women business owners in six states: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
5. Government establishes the Nidhi Khatri-led commission to build a framework for the right to repair
◉ A group has been established by the Department of Consumer Affairs to provide a framework for the “Right to Repair.”
◉ Nidhi Khatri will serve as the committee’s chair (Additional Secretary of Department of Consumer Affairs).
◉ The objective is to facilitate trade between original equipment manufacturers and third-party buyers and sellers while also empowering local consumers and product buyers.

6. WPI inflation in India was 15.18 percent in June.
◉ The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for India is 15.18 percent (Provisional) for the month of June 2022, a small down from the WPI figure of 88 percent for the previous month.
◉ Price increases for food, basic metals, chemicals & chemical products, food, mineral oils, crude oil, and natural gas are some of the factors contributing to the high rate of inflation.
◉ Index for the Fuel and Power category rose 0.65% to 155.4 in June.
7. An MoU was signed between the RBI and Bank Indonesia to further their shared cooperation.
◉ In order to further their mutual cooperation, the RBI and the Bank of Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Bali, Indonesia.
◉ By signing this MoU, RBI and BI vowed to improve communication between their respective central banks as well as their cooperation and information sharing in the field of central banking.
◉ It covers payment systems, technological advancements in payment services, and a framework for regulation and oversight of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML-CFT).

8. Google Parent Alphabet has added Marty Chavez, a former Goldman Sachs executive, to its board.
◉ Wall Street veteran Marty Chavez is joining the board of Alphabet Inc., the company that owns Google, giving the technological behemoth tremendous financial muscle. His nomination represents the first change to the Alphabet board since the resignation of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt in 2020.
◉ Chavez, a vice chairman, and partner at Sixth Street Partners has experience as an investor and a software executive, but his 20-year employment at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is what has made him most well-known.

9. Mother Teresa Memorial Award presented to Dia Mirza by the Maharashtra government
◉ Mother Teresa Memorial Awards for Social Justice 2021 were presented to environmental activist Afroz Shah and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) National Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza.
◉ At Raj Bhavan in Mumbai, the Maharashtra government’s Bhagat Singh Koshyari presents the honor.
◉ They received recognition for their admirable and noteworthy contributions to environmental sustainability.

10. Dunagiri, a Project 17A stealth frigate, was unveiled by Rajnath Singh.
◉ In Kolkata, the fourth P17A stealth frigate “Dunagiri” was launched into the Hooghly River by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders Limited is responsible for creating the Project 17A frigate.
◉ The P-17A class is a development of the P-17 Shivalik Class, adding more modern armaments and greater stealth capabilities.
◉ The P17A Project’s first two ships were introduced in 2019 and 2020 at MDL and GRSE, respectively. On May 17 and 22, this year, MDL launched the third ship (Udaygiri).

11. With IIT Ropar, Syngenta India started the Biodiversity Sensor Project to track farm insects.
◉ An innovative biodiversity sensor project has been started by Syngenta India, a major global agribusiness, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, Punjab, to research the behavior of insects near farms, especially bees and butterflies.
◉ Syngenta also launched India’s first drone yatra, which will traverse 10,000 kilometers to educate 10,000 farmers about drone spraying.
◉ To exhibit and instruct farmers on the usage of drones, the Yatra will go to 13 states (Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka).

12. Aravindh Chithambaram, a grandmaster from India, won a competition in Spain.
◉ The 41st Villa De Benasque International Chess Open was won by Indian Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram in Spain. R B Ramesh, Chithambaram’s coach, commended his pupil for winning.
◉ On the basis of the tie-break score in this match, he defeated Raunak Sadhwani and Robert Hovhannisyan of Armenia.
In third place, after the Armenian, was Sadhwani.
