1. “Cumbum” Angoor receives a GI tag.
◉ The renowned Cumbum Panneer Thratchai, or Cumbum grapes, of Tamil Nadu has been given the Geographical Indication (GI) label.
◉ The ‘Grape City of South India’ is the Cumbum Valley on the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu, where Paneer Thirachai is grown.
◉ One of the highest grape-growing locations is the Theni district in Paneer Thirachai. The ‘Paneer’ variety, however, is mostly connected to the Cumbum Valley, where there are ten settlements and a total of roughly 2,000 acres that are being farmed.
◉ In 1832, a French priest brought the Panneer grapes to Tamil Nadu for the first time.
2. ‘Miniratna Category-l’ classification is awarded to the Indian Solar Energy Corporation
◉ Miniratna Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) designation has been granted to Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI).
◉ SECI was established in 2011 and serves as the ministry’s main implementing body for renewable energy programs and projects in order to achieve India’s obligations under international agreements.
◉ Over 56 GW worth of RE project capacity have so far been awarded by SECI.
3. In Mumbai, Jyotiraditya Scindia launches India Steel 2023.
◉ India Steel 2023 was officially opened by Union Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia at the Mumbai Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai.
◉ The Commerce Ministry and FICCI are working together to put up the event.
◉ It aims to bring together leaders in the industry, decision-makers, and specialists to talk about the most recent advancements, difficulties, and possibilities in the steel sector.
◉ The Indian steel industry’s cutting-edge technology, goods, and solutions will be displayed at the India Steel 2023 event.
4. Vedanta establishes an electronics manufacturing hub with the help of 20 Korean companies.
◉ A manufacturing hub for electronics has been established in India by Vedanta Group in collaboration with 20 South Korean companies.
◉ In a joint venture (JV) with Foxconn, the Indian company is establishing a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Gujarat as well.
◉ With this agreement, India’s electronics manufacturing sector would grow and its reliance on imports will decline.
◉ The manufacturing center, which will be located in Tamil Nadu, would concentrate on producing items like smartphones, TVs, and other electronic goods.
◉ Over 8,000 individuals in the area should find employment as a result of the initiative.

6. India’s top trading partner in FY23 is the US, according to a report
◉ In 2022–2023, the US will surpass all other trading partners as India’s largest trading partner due to the two nations’ growing economic connections.
◉ The bilateral trade between India and the US climbed by 7.65 percent to USD 128.55 billion in 2022–23 from USD 119.5 billion in 2021–22, according to preliminary figures from the commerce ministry. In 2020–21, it was USD 80.51 billion.
◉ In 2022–23, exports to the US increased by 2.81 percent to USD 78.31 billion from USD 76.18 billion, while imports increased by almost 16 percent to USD 50.24 billion.

7. ‘Amrit Kalash’ retail term deposit plan from SBI is back for 400 days.
◉ The Amrit Kalash special fixed deposit (FD) scheme’s duration has been extended by the nation’s largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI).
◉ This retail term deposit scheme was previously launched by the bank and was valid from February 15, 2023, through March 31, 2023. However, SBI announced on April 12th, 2023 that the Amrit Kalash FD Retail Term Deposit Programme has been extended to June 30th, 2023.
