1. For sailors, INCOIS has released the “SAMUDRA” mobile app.
◉ A new smartphone application called “SAMUDRA” from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), provides thorough information on all ocean-related services that is beneficial to both mariners and the fishing community.
◉ Smart Access to Marine Users for Ocean Data Resources and Advisories is the abbreviation for this project.
◉ Using the SAMUDRA smartphone app, users may traverse the marine environment with confidence in their safety and successful fishing operations.
2. Maharashtra came out on top in the fiscal health assessment based on the updated budget estimates for FY23. According to a study done by a foreign brokerage business, Maharashtra is the state with the best overall fiscal health.
◉ Telangana, one of the poorest states in the nation, is in second place, followed by Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, with Bengal, Punjab, and Kerala making up the bottom three.
◉ Bengal performs the poorest, while Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh round out the bottom five. Andhra Pradesh’s rating has decreased to 11th in FY23 from eighth in FY22, and Gujarat’s ranking has dropped to the seventh position from fifth.
3. Launch of UP’s first electronic office system in Kannauj
◉ The first district in the state to embrace the new digital gateway that reduces the manual processing of files and papers is Kannauj in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
◉ The National e-Governance Plan’s (NeGP) Mission Mode Project (MMP) includes the e-office.
◉ E-office is a workflow-based system that combines both the more effective electronic system and elements of currently used manual file handling.
◉ Departments can take speedy judgments thanks to the effectiveness of the e-office, which also makes them paperless.
4. The ‘Gramin Mitra’ scheme was introduced by the Goa government.
◉ In order to enable doorstep delivery of public services throughout the state and encourage digital empowerment in rural regions, the Goa government has introduced its flagship program, known as “Gramin Mitra”.
◉ The program will close the digital divide and encourage digital empowerment in the state’s rural areas.
◉ The program strives to give rural people access to resources and opportunities that can improve their quality of life and spur socio-economic development.
◉ Under the initiative, anyone can phone the designated call center number to obtain public services. The call center is open seven days a week from 8 am to 8 pm.

◉ Canara Bank has launched Canara Jeevan Dhara, a unique savings account for current and future retirees.

6. Sebi gives Zerodha the go-ahead to start its mutual fund operation.
◉ The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the market regulator, has given stockbroking startup Zerodha final approval to begin operating an asset management division.
◉ In collaboration with Smallcase, a startup that was nurtured under Zerodha’s internal corporate fund Rainmatter, it is establishing the asset management firm.
◉ As a “Rs 20 per order broker” when it first launched in 2010, Zerodha quickly established a reputation among traders as a no-frills, affordable competitor.

◉ She had previously held the dual positions of Director (Finance) PFC since 1 July 2020 and Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) since 1 June 2023.
◉ In her role as Director, Chopra, who has more than 35 years of expertise in the electricity and finance industries, helped India’s largest NBFC achieve the greatest net profit, highest net worth, and lowest NPA levels.
◉ She oversaw crucial financial operations like asset liability management, banking, treasury, resource mobilization (for both domestic and foreign markets), and stressed asset resolution.

8. Raj Chetty, an Indian-American economist, receives the prestigious Harvard University Prize
◉ Raj Chetty, an Indian-American economist, has won Harward University’s prestigious George Ledlie Prize 2023 for using big data to dispel stereotypes about who can realize the American Dream.
◉ In addition to Chetty, the esteemed George Ledlie Prize from Harvard University was given to biologist Michael Springer, a professor of systems biology at the Harvard Medical School, for developing a quicker and more accurate COVID test method.
◉ Chetty, a professor of economics at Harvard University, also serves as the organization’s head. Opportunity Insights is a team of Harvard economists that focuses on inequality research.
9. Five young Indians have been selected for the 2023 International Young Eco-Hero Award
◉ The 2023 International Young Eco-Hero Award will be given to 17 teen environmental activists from around the world who have taken action to address the most pressing environmental issues. Five young people from India are among them.
◉ Young eco-activists Eiha Dixit, Manya Harsha, Nirvaan Somany, Mannat Kaur, and Karnav Rastogi were honored by the American non-profit group “Action For Nature” for their work.

◉ Seema Bisla, an Olympian and bronze medallist at the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships, has been given a one-year suspension for failing to report her whereabouts to the NADA’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP).
