1. Festival of Maghi Mela is taking place in Punjab.
◉ In Punjab’s Muktsar Sahib, the Maghi Mela festival is now taking place.
◉ Since ancient times, the city of Sri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab has celebrated the Maghi Mela in honor of the 40 Sikh soldiers who lost their lives defending their country against the Mughals at the Battle of Khidrana in 1705.
◉ On December 29, 1705, the conflict happened close to Khidrane di Dhab, a body of water.
2. In Bhopal, the ‘Think 20’ G20 meeting got underway.
◉ At the Kushabhau Thackeray International Convention Center in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the two-day Think-20 summit in conjunction with the G-20 has begun (MP).
◉ Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan opened the first Think-20 summit in MP.
◉ There will be 94 international delegates, 115 representatives from various governments, and roughly 100 local participants in the debates.
3. Kerala will play host to the first G20 Health Working Group meeting.
◉ The first Health Working Group conference under the G-20 India Presidency will take place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from January 18–20, 2023.
◉ The three-day gathering will center on thematic talks on three key issues: improving pharmaceutical sector cooperation, digital health innovations to support universal health coverage, and prevention, readiness, and response to health emergencies.
◉ Representatives from G20 member nations, special invitee nations, and pertinent international organizations will attend the meeting.

4. Film “Toolsidas Junior” to screen at SCO Film Festival in 2023 The children’s focus section of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival will screen the national award-winning film “Toolsidas Junior.”
◉ The screening will be held at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), in collaboration with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival. Mumbai will host the festival from January 27 to January 31.
◉ Two National Awards have already been received for “Toolsidas Junior”: Best Hindi Film and Special Mention in Child Actor Category for Varun Buddhadev, the film’s star child actor.

6. In December 2022, India’s exports fell by 12.2% to $34.48 billion.
◉ India’s merchandise exports fell by 12.2 percent in December 2022 to $34.48 billion from $39.27 billion in the same month the year before.
◉ This comes after exports increased by 0.6 percent in November and decreased by 12 percent in October.
◉ The nation’s imports fell to $58.24 billion in December from $60.33 billion in the same month last year.
◉ After reaching a seven-month low of $23.89 billion in November, the merchandise trade deficit further decreased to $23.76 billion in December.

7. Varuna 2023, an India-France combined naval exercise, gets underway
◉ On the western seaboard, the 21st iteration of the India and France bilateral naval exercise known as “Varuna” got underway.
◉ The two fleets’ annual bilateral exercise was first conducted in 1993 and given the name “VARUNA” in 2001.
◉ Advanced air defense drills, tactical manoeuvres, and surface firings will all be part of the exercise, which will take place from January 16 to 20, 2023.
8. First-ever Special Forces drills will be held between India and Egypt.
◉ In Udaipur, Jaipur, and Jodhpur, India, and Egypt will conduct the first-ever Special Forces military training exercises.
◉ It is being conducted to commemorate the 75 years that the two nations have had diplomatic ties.
◉ India is a significant player in the Indian Ocean, and the security of the region depends on Egypt’s control of the Suez Canal and the security of the Red Sea to the west.
Additionally, Egypt has been asked to attend the G20 summit as a guest nation in 2023.

10. WIPL media rights are purchased by Viacom18 for Rs 951.
◉ The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL), which will begin in March or April 2023, has been sold to Viacom 18.
◉ For a total of Rs 951 crore, Viacom18 has acquired the media rights to the women’s IPL from 2023 to 2027.
◉ The only other broadcaster to submit a proposal was Disney-Star, who offered Rs. 98 crore. It is believed that Viacom 18’s offer was approximately ten times more.
