1. Launches Dharmendra Pradhan AICTE Investor Network – MoE
◉ In New Delhi, the “Ministry of Education – AICTE Investor Network” was introduced by Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.
◉ This is a groundbreaking project aimed at strengthening the innovation culture by uniting students, teachers, investors, and the market on a single platform.
◉ The network seeks to give early-stage student- or faculty-led enterprises vital financial support, mentorship, and strategic direction.
◉ The Ministry of Education hopes to promote private investment in faculty- and student-led enterprises through this special network.
2. The Ramsar list now includes five more Indian wetlands.
◉ India now has 80 such sites—the number of wetlands on the List of Wetlands of International Importance, also known as the Ramsar List—after adding five more.
◉ Federal Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced the addition of five more sites to the list: two in Tamil Nadu and three in Karnataka.
◉ Two of these locations are in Tamilnadu, Karaivetti Bird Sanctuary and Longwood Shola Reserve Forest, while three are in Karnataka: Ankasamudra Bird Conservation Reserve, Aghanashini Estuary, and Magadi Kere Conservation Reserve.
3. SARVATRA: A Mobile Bridging System with Multiple spans Designed and developed by Armament and Combat Engineering Systems (ACE) of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence, SARVATRA is a Multispan Mobile Bridging System.
◉ During natural disasters, SARVATRA helps the Army build bridges over flowing water to ensure strong connectivity between two places.
◉ Fast setup and operational readiness in less than 100 minutes are made possible by SARVATRA’s truck-mounted design, which is an essential feature in emergency and natural disaster situations.
◉ SARVATRA’s five scissor bridges are made of aluminum alloy and are incredibly durable. They can span up to 75 meters and easily navigate a variety of challenging terrains.

4. For the first time, the WHO recognizes nations for their achievements in getting rid of trans fats made in factories.
◉ Five countries have received the first-ever certificates from WHO attesting to their success in getting rid of trans fatty acids that are manufactured industrially.
◉ Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, and Saudi Arabia have all shown they have best practice policies in place for the removal of industrially manufactured trans-fatty acids (iTFAs), backed by sufficient procedures for oversight and enforcement.
◉ Even if the World Health Organization’s 2018 lofty target of eliminating iTFA from the world’s food supply by the end of 2023 was not achieved, remarkable progress has been made in every part of the world toward this goal.
Banking
5. In January, GST collections increase by 10% to ₹1.72 lakh crore.
◉ With ₹1,72,129 crore in gross GST income collected in January 2024, it represents a 10.4% Year-over-Year (Y-o-Y) increase over the ₹155,922 crore revenue collected in January 2023.
◉ Notably, this is the third month in this fiscal year with collections of at least ₹1.70 lakh crore, making it the second-highest monthly collection ever.
◉ From the IGST collection, the government has paid ₹43,552 crore to the CGST and ₹37,257 crore to the SGST.
6. 3.4% of GDP is set aside by the government for capital expenditure boost.
◉ In her interim budget, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a rise in capital expenditure outlay of 11.1% to Rs 11.11 lakh crore in 2024–25, or 3.4% of GDP.
◉ The five eastern states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal will receive particular attention from the central government.
◉ Establishing long-term physical or fixed assets is done through capital expenditures or capex.
Regarding the fiscal deficit, the administration estimated that it would be 5.1% of GDP in 2024–2025.
7. The government updated the FY24 budget deficit predictions to 5.8%.
◉ Presenting the Interim Budget 2024–25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman updated her estimate of the budget deficit for FY24, putting it at 5.8%.
◉ Despite a moderating trend in the nominal growth forecasts, the Revised Estimate of the fiscal deficit is 5.8% of GDP, an improvement over the Budget Estimate.
◉ The budget deficit in 2024–2025 is predicted to be 5.1% of GDP, and the government is committed to bringing it below 4.5 percent by that time.
◉ There would be more room for additional borrowing by the private sector due to the lower fiscal deficit estimate, which is expected to be 5.1% of GDP in FY25 as opposed to 5.8% in FY24.
