4. $150 million in financing from the World Bank is approved for the Resilient Kerala program.
◉ For the Resilient Kerala program to continue enhancing the state’s preparation against natural disasters, the effects of climate change, and disease outbreaks, the World Bank has authorized a loan of $150 million.
◉ This new funding will strengthen Kerala’s resilience in the crucial areas of managing water resources and preventing coastal erosion.
◉ With a grace term of six years, the loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has an ultimate maturity of 14 years.
◉ It supplements the World Bank’s prior $125 million investment, and the combined assistance is anticipated to shield close to 50 lakh people from the effects of floods.
5. Paytm releases UPI SDK for frictionless payments to online merchants.
◉ For clients to pay online businesses without the system failing, Paytm has introduced a UPI Software Development Kit (SDK).

◉ Users won’t need to switch between a payment app and a merchant by using the Paytm UPI SDK to make straight bank account payments using UPI PIN. The business is improving two-sided payments for both customers and merchants together with Paytm UPI Lite.

6. ‘ActivMoney’ is introduced by Kotak Mahindra Bank.
◉ The Kotak Mahindra Bank introduced its ActivMoney feature, which allows clients to benefit from interest rates similar to fixed deposits (FDs) of up to 7% annually and the flexibility to access their money whenever they want from the connected savings account.

7. RAW names Ravi Sinha as its new director.
◉ The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) has named Ravi Sinha, an IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre and member of the 1988 batch, as its new leader.
◉ Samant Kumar Goel, who is now in charge and whose term ends on June 30, 2023, will be replaced by Sinha.
◉ Sinha, who has worked for the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) for more than two decades, is currently the organization’s second-in-command. He was overseeing the operations wing before getting elevated.
◉ In June 2019, his predecessor Goel was named R&AW chief for a two-year term. Later, he received two one-year extensions, one in June 2021 and the other in June 2022.

9. For “Azadi,” Arundhati Roy receives the 45th European Essay Prize.
◉ The Charles Veillon Foundation has given writer Arundhati Roy the 45th European Essay Prize in recognition of her lifetime accomplishments.
◉ The prize for Roy’s French translation of “Azadi” (2021), her collection of essays, has been given.
