1. In Odisha, Dharmendra Pradhan opens the first Skill India Center.
◉ In Sambalpur, Odisha, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan has opened the country’s first Skill India Centre (SIC).
◉ The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will appoint a Center Manager to supervise the day-to-day operations of the center, ensuring that quality standards are followed, and monitor the implementation of training programs to ensure the training ecosystem is implemented seamlessly.
◉ A significant number of young people would gain empowerment and become integrated into the changing labor market if the center offered affordable training.
2. France topped the Henley Passport Index for 2024, with India ranked 85th.
◉ The Henley Passport Index for 2024 has been made public, and India’s passport ranking has dropped from 84th to 85th place, with France taking the top spot.
◉ Based on the strength of their passports, countries are ranked by the Henley Passport Index. France tops the list in 2024 with a passport that allows entry without a visa to 194 nations.
◉ Alongside France among the top-ranked nations are Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.
Bangladesh has dropped from 101st to 102nd place, while Pakistan is at 106th place, unchanged from the previous year.

5. Malta joins the International Solar Alliance as its 119th member.
◉ Malta has joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as its 119th member nation.
With more than 120 member nations, the ISA seeks to lessen reliance on fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources.

6. IREDA and PNB Collaborate to Jointly Fund Renewable Energy Initiatives
◉ A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Punjab National Bank and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. to promote renewable energy initiatives throughout the country.
◉ By offering significant financial support to a range of renewable energy initiatives, the MoU hopes to advance environmental awareness and sustainability.
◉ Through the use of this agreement and current alliances with other financial institutions, IREDA hopes to help reach the 2030 target of 500 GW of non-fossil-based power generation capacity.
◉ Both institutions can work together on co-lending and loan syndication for a variety of renewable energy projects according to the agreement.

11. Andreas Brehme of Germany passed away.
◉ Andreas Brehme, the FIFA World Cup winner, passed away at the age of sixty-three. Brehme’s late penalty in the 1990 final versus Argentina in Italy gave Germany their third world title.
◉ After his spot kick helped Germany defeat Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final in Rome, the attacking full-back and dead-ball expert instantly became a hero in the sport.
