1. The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme would be extended for another five years at a cost of Rs 1,827 crores, according to the Centre.
- The Centre has decided to extend the Central Sector National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for another five years, from 2021-22 to 2025-2, with a budget of Rs 1,827 crores.
- The scheme’s income ceiling has been raised from Rs 1.5 lakh per year to Rs 3.5 lakh per year. It was first introduced in 2008-09.
2. BIM umbrella plan will be extended from 2021-22 to 2025-26 at a cost of Rs 13,020 crores, according to the Centre.
- The Central Government has approved the continuance of the ‘Border Infrastructure and Management (BIM)’ Central Sector Umbrella Scheme for the 15th Finance Commission Cycle, from 2021-22 to 2025-26, at a cost of Rs 13,020 crore.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is in charge of BIM development. The border infrastructure will be strengthened as a result of this continuance, which will improve border management, policing, and border guarding.

3. India and France have inked a Blue Economy and Ocean Governance Roadmap.
- India and France have agreed to expand their bilateral cooperation in the blue economy and ocean governance by signing a roadmap.
- This collaboration will aid in the exploration of the potential for collaboration in marine science research for a better knowledge of oceans, as well as ensuring that the ocean remains a global common, a space of freedom and trade governed by the rule of law.
4. In the Maldives, Reliance Jio will launch the India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) undersea cable infrastructure.
- In conjunction with Ocean Connect Maldives, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), will launch its next-generation multi-terabit India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) undersea cable line in Hulhumale, Maldives.
- The Maldives’ Hulhumale will be directly connected to the world’s major internet hubs in India and Singapore via the new underwater cable infrastructure. RJIL is also building the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) subsea cable system, which connects Mumbai and Milan.

5. ICICI Bank paid Rs. 19.9 crores for a 9.49 percent interest in Verve Financial Services.
- Verve Financial Services and ICICI Bank have formed an agreement (VFSPL). The bank purchased a 9.49 percent stake in VFSPL’s equity shares for a cash investment of INR 19.99 crore.
- VFSPL maintains the ‘Indiafilings’ platform, which offers MSMEs, corporations, and entrepreneurs numerous services such as incorporation, trademark, tax filings, compliance, payroll management, and other business services.
6. Mastercard and SBI Payments have teamed up to improve digital payments infrastructure in Guwahati, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
- Mastercard and SBI Payments teamed with the Auto Rickshaw Association in Lucknow, the All Assam’s Restaurant Association (AARA) in Guwahati, local retailers, and the Boat Union in Varanasi to enhance the digital payments infrastructure as part of their flagship campaign ‘Team Cashless India.’

7. IIFL Home Finance and the Asian Development Bank struck a $68 million financing deal for affordable green housing.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and IIFL Home Finance Limited have inked a loan arrangement for USD 68 million (INR 434 crore) to enable affordable green homes for lower-income women borrowers in India.
- It is primarily concerned with the efficient use of “energy, water, and construction materials.” These homes are built to be more ecologically friendly and climate resilient.

- Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has announced the appointment of Takuya Tsumura as the new President and CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), effective April 1, 2022.
- The appointment is part of the company’s annual management reshuffle. Tsumura will succeed Gaku Nakanishi, who will relocate from India to Asian Honda’s regional headquarters in Asia and Oceania as General Manager, Automobile Business for the area.

- The International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), a Singapore-based intergovernmental organisation of natural and synthetic rubber producing and consuming countries, has elected India as its Chairman. India takes over as chairman of the IRSG from Cote d’Ivoire.
