1. The Ministry of Textiles Releases the “Paat-Mitro” App for Jute Growers
◉ In an ongoing attempt to empower and assist jute farmers, the Ministry of Textiles has released the “Paat-Mitro” smartphone application.
◉ This application, created by The Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI), is a big step toward giving jute farmers vital information about Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and agronomy.
◉ The application contains details on Jute Gradation Parameters, Farmer-centric programs like “Jute-ICARE,” weather forecasts, the locations of JCI’s Purchase Centers, and Procurement Policies in addition to MSP and agronomic practices.
◉ Under the MSP Operation, farmers can monitor the status of payments for the raw jute they sell to JCI. The software uses the newest technology and has a chatbot to answer questions from farmers and offer help in real-time.
2. Panic switches will be added by Central Railways at 117 stations.
◉ Ram Karan Yadav, general manager of Central Railway, recently declared a big move to improve passenger safety. During his first press conference following his election, Yadav revealed his intention to install panic switches at 117 Central Railway network train stops.
◉ To put this safety element into effect, the Central Railway and RailTel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Within a year, the Central Railway hopes to have all emergency switches installed.
◉ Installing emergency switches at train stations is a preventative step to guarantee the security and welfare of commuters.
3. India Imports Coking Coal At A Five-Year High, With Russia Among Top Three Suppliers
◉ India’s imports of coking coal reached a five-year high in the current fiscal year, totaling 38.14 million tonnes between April and November. Compared to the same period last year, when 38.12 million tonnes were imported, this represents a little year-over-year increase.
◉ India has historically imported a significant quantity of coking coal from Russia, which is mostly used in the steel industry. Australia is also a significant source of this coal. Russia, which was formerly Mozambique and Canada’s sixth-largest coal supplier to India, has risen to the third rank.

5. WHO: Severe Malnutrition Crisis Affects Over One Million Afghan Children
◉ With over a million children in Afghanistan suffering from severe malnutrition, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning.
◉ The seriousness of the problem has been highlighted by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who claims that Afghanistan urgently needs $185 million to properly tackle malnutrition.
◉ He said in a statement that acute food insecurity is currently affecting thirty percent of the Afghan people as a whole. 2.3 million children suffer from mild acute malnutrition and around one million children are extremely malnourished, according to the alarming figures.
