1. India’s First Cannabis Medicine Project to be Launched in Jammu Union Minister of State for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh said that Jammu will be the initial location for the project.
◉ This initiative will be crucial to Atma-Nirbhar Bharat because it will be able to produce export-quality medications intended to treat different neuropathies, among other things.
◉ The research will raise awareness of the wide range of medical applications for this drug of abuse, particularly for cancer patients.
◉ In a public-private cooperation with a Canadian company, the CSIR-IIIM Jammu “Cannabis Research Project” is the nation’s first of its kind. It has “great potential to put the substance of abuse for the good of mankind, especially for patients suffering from neuropathies, cancer, and epilepsy.”

◉ Chennai, Tamil Nadu has hosted the third and last meeting of the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, which is being chaired by India.
◉ A dedicated working group on disaster risk reduction (DRR) has now been established for the first time, demonstrating India’s commitment to addressing the problems caused by disasters and climate catastrophes on a global scale.

4. Italy recognizes the contribution of the Indian Army to World War II

6. PhonePe introduces a function for paying taxes
◉ PhonePe, a fintech and digital payments company, has introduced an option for users to pay income tax using the app.
◉ Without enrolling into the income tax system, individuals and businesses can pay self-assessment and advance tax using UPI or credit card via the application.
◉ Within two working days, the money will be credited to the tax portal.
◉ By logging into the app and choosing the “income tax” option, users can pay their taxes. After that, they must choose the tax type, assessment year, and Permanent Account Number (PAN) information. Users will be able to make a payment using their preferred method of payment after entering the total tax amount. One working day after paying the tax, taxpayers will receive a Unique Transaction Reference (UTR) number as an acknowledgment, and two working days later, they will be able to see the challan for the payment.
◉ Depending on their bank, users may be eligible for a 45-day interest-free period and reward points on their tax payments.
◉ For the purpose of enabling the feature, PhonePe has teamed with digital B2B payments service provider PayMate.

7. Reappointed as CEO and MD of Tata Steel is T V Narendran
◉ With effect from September 19, 2023, T V Narendran has been reappointed as MD and CEO of Tata Steel for a five-year term.
◉ He has worked in the mining and metals sector for more than 35 years. Tata Steel hired Narendran in 1988.
◉ On November 1st, 2013, he was chosen to serve as the managing director of Tata Steel for India and South East Asia.
◉ Tata Steel promoted Narendran to Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director internationally in October 2017.

8. Murmu Draupadi gives out National Geoscience Prizes
◉ The National Geoscience Awards (NGA) – 2022 were presented at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center by President Droupadi Murmu.
◉ The NGA was established in 1966 as a mark of honor and admiration for outstanding people and groups that have excelled, dedicated themselves, and innovated in the field of geosciences.
◉ The National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement, the National Young Geoscientist Award, and the National Geoscience Award in several sectors of geosciences are presented annually by the Ministry of Mines.
◉ The award recipients are from 11 states and UTs, including six males and five girls.
◉ Each recipient of a PMRBP award will also receive a certificate, a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, and a medal.

◉ After a 13-year career, Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne announced his retirement from international competition.

◉ He participated in three ICC T20 World Cups for Sri Lanka, including the tournament that year, which the team won.

10. Gold medals were won by Indian javelin throwers in Lebanon Athletics 2023.
