1. North East’s first compressed biogas facility was opened by the Assam chief minister.
◉ At Sonapur in Assam’s Kamrup district, the first compressed biogas plant project in North East India was officially opened by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
◉ The facility will be able to produce five tonnes of compressed biogas per day from raw materials like municipal solid wastes and animal manure.
◉ Compressed biogas facilities like the one being developed in Sonapur would not only help with municipal solid waste management issues, but they would also give farmers another source of income because they would be able to sell livestock manure to the biogas producers.
2. In Assam, the Ministry of Ayush held the first “Chintan Shivir”
◉ A “Chintan Shivir” for Ayush has been planned by the Ministry of Ayush at Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
◉ The event was launched by Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister.
