1. NHPC inks 20 billion with JBIC.
◉ A credit deal of JPY 20 billion, or around Rs 1,100 crore, has been signed by the state-owned hydropower behemoth NHPC and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for the development of a 300 MW solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
◉ This is NHPC and JBIC’s first loan syndication to finance renewable energy projects.
◉ Co-financing for JBIC’s loan comes from the Bank of Yokohama Ltd. and MUFG Bank Ltd. in Japan.
◉ The extension of the plant is made possible by JBIC’s GREEN Operations, or Global Action for Reconciling Economic Growth and Environment Preservation, which aims to protect the environment worldwide.
