1. GAIL and ADNOC Gas of the UAE ink long-term LNG contract
◉ GAIL and ADNOC Gas of the United Arab Emirates have inked a 10-year agreement for the purchase of 0.5 million tonnes of LNG each year.
◉ GAIL has now inked two long-term LNG purchase agreements this month. Delivery under the terms of the ADNOC agreement will begin in 2026.
◉ This will “open more avenues of strategic partnership between GAIL and ADNOC in other areas of energy domain” and “help bridge the gap in India’s demand and supply of natural gas.” Earlier this month, GAIL signed a deal with global commodity trader Vitol, whereby the Indian gas marketer would buy one million tonnes of LNG annually for ten years beginning in 2026.
2. Ola introduces an e-bike taxi service in Hyderabad and Delhi.
◉ Platform for ride-hailing Ola has introduced e-bike services in Hyderabad and Delhi.
◉ Ola e-bikes cost ₹25 for five kilometers, ₹50 for ten, and ₹75 for fifteen.
◉ In the upcoming months, the business plans to install 10,000 electric scooters in both cities.
◉ In September 2023, Ola began offering its e-bike taxi service in Bangalore on a trial basis. With more than 1.75 million rides, the company experienced a 40% market expansion in just three months.
◉ In Bangalore, Ola has installed 200 charging stations.
3. MoHA renews the five-year ban placed on the Students Islamic Movement of India.
◉ The Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is prohibited from operating for a further five years, according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
◉ For the first time, in 2001, the organization was deemed an “unlawful association” under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
◉ It has been discovered that SIMI is involved in inciting terrorism and upsetting communal harmony to jeopardize Bharat’s security, integrity, and sovereignty.
4. By 2024, 51.3% of India’s young will be employable, up from 33.9% in 2014: DEA
◉ Based on a transformative journey in skill development in India over the last ten years, the Department of Economic Affairs stated in its January 2024 review of the economy that there is ample scope to mainstream skilling into the education curriculum and upskill a large portion of the existing workforce into future-relevant skills.
◉ The paper claims that the campaign for mass skilling that started in 2014 is starting to pay off. Citing results from the online Wheebox National Employability Test, it stated that “the employable percentage of final-year and pre-final-year students increased from 33.9% in 2014 to 51.3% in 2024.”

5. India’s GDP growth rate is upgraded by the IMF to 6.7% for the current fiscal year.
◉ The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its projection for India’s GDP growth to 6.7% for the upcoming fiscal year.
◉ It has increased by 40 basis points from its earlier prediction of 6.3%.
◉ The IMF also increased India’s medium-term GDP growth to 6.5% for 2025 and 2026 in its most recent World Economic Outlook report.

◉ After a month-long public voting period, Naorem Roshibina Devi (Manipur), a two-time medallist at the Asian Games, has been voted the International Wushu Federation’s (IWUF) female athlete of the year in the sanda category.
◉ The 23-year-old Roshibina defeated Wu Xiaowei (46753) of China and Shahrbano Mansouriyan Semiromi (88179) of Iran with 93545 votes. Roshibina won a bronze medal in the 2018 Asian Games and a silver medal in the 2022 Asian Games.
◉ Following the preliminary assessment by the IWUF Athletes Committee, 45 candidates representing 23 different nations and regions participated in the public voting across a range of categories.
◉ Additionally, the Manipuri took home a bronze medal from the World Junior Wushu Championships in 2016. This year, she received the Arjuna Award.
