1. Assam and Meghalaya have agreed to settle a five-decade-old boundary dispute in six locations.
◉ In the presence of the Union Home Minister, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma signed a contract to end the long-running border dispute in six out of twelve locations along the 884.9-kilometer border between the two states.
◉ The day is known as “Historic Day” because it ends a five-decade-old boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya. Meghalaya has also had concerns with the Assam Reorganisation Act, 1971, since its separation from Assam in 1972.
2. Maharashtra has launched a program to provide personal loans to inmates.
◉ The Maharashtra government has implemented a scheme that allows inmates to receive personal loans from banks of up to Rs. 50,000 to help their families better their living conditions and cover legal bills.
◉ In our country, it will be a first-of-its-kind effort. Under the scheme, the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank will grant loans up to 50,000 at a 7% interest rate.
3. The government of Karnataka has introduced the Vinaya Samarasya initiative.
◉ The Karnataka government has announced the Vinaya Samarasya Yojana, a public awareness campaign aimed at eliminating untouchability in Gram Panchayats throughout the state.
◉ This program was also included in the recently released Karnataka Budget for the years 2022-23. On April 14, the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, the scheme will be inaugurated.

4. India and Australia have struck an agreement to jointly explore lithium and cobalt mineral resources.
◉ In the next six months, the governments of India and Australia have agreed to invest USD 6 million to jointly investigate Lithium and Cobalt deposits in Australia.
◉ Last year, the Governments of India and Australia signed a Government to Government (G2G) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the mining and processing of Critical and Strategic Minerals through the Ministry of Mines and the Critical Minerals Facilitation Office (CMFO), respectively.

6. The government has declared that it will sell a 1.5 percent interest in ONGC in order to raise Rs 3,000 crores.
◉ To raise Rs 3,000 crore, the Central Government is selling its 1.5 percent stake in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) through an Offer for Sale (OFS).
◉ It is being sold at a discounted floor price of Rs 159 per share, which is a 7 percent discount. A 0.75 percent greenshoe option is included in the 1.5 percent equity share transaction. On March 30-31, 2022, the OFS will be open. The government of India owns 60.41 percent of ONGC.

7. Chairman of the Payments Council of India, Vishwas Patel, has been re-elected.
◉ Vishwas Patel has been re-elected as Chairman of the Payments Council of India (PCI) for the second time in 2022; he was first elected to the position in 2018.
◉ He was the Co-Chairman of PCI in 2013. PCI is a payment ecosystem industry organization that is affiliated with India’s Internet and Mobile Association (IAMAI). PCI aspires to foster a cashless society and has ambitious plans to expand digital payment in India.
8. Renu Singh has been named the next director of the Forest Research Institute.
◉ The Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF) has named Dr. Renu Singh as the new director of the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun.
◉ She will be only the second woman to lead the institute. After AS Rawat, director-general of ICFRE, turned over his additional role of director FRI to her, Singh joined as FRI director.
