1. To increase oil imports, IOC and Rosneft of Russia reached an agreement.
◉ A long-term agreement has been inked by India’s main refiner Indian Oil Corp. and Russia’s largest oil producer Rosneft to significantly expand oil supplies and diversify oil grades sent to India.
◉ The parties also talked about the potential for making payments in local currencies as well as methods to increase Rosneft Oil Company’s engagement with Indian businesses throughout the whole energy value chain.
◉ In March, India was the country that purchased the most Russian Urals grade crude. This month, deliveries to India are anticipated to make up more than 50% of total seaborne Urals exports, with China coming in second.
2. PM Modi was invited to the Bastille Day parade by France.
◉ PM Narendra Modi has been asked by France to attend the annual Bastille Day parade in Paris in July 2023 as a guest.

3. The Italian government wants to outlaw using English in official correspondence.
◉ The Brothers of Italy party, led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, has tabled new law that calls for a punishment of up to Euro 100,000 (Rs 82,46,550) for the use of any other language, particularly English, in official correspondence.
◉ The bill was submitted by lower chamber deputies member Fabio Rampelli, and it has the support of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
◉ Additionally, it forbids the use of “acronyms and names” for job titles in domestically based businesses in official documents.
◉ According to the first article of the law, Italian must be the main language spoken in all workplaces, including those that deal with foreigners who do not speak it.

4. Neeraj Nigam is appointed executive director by RBI
◉ Neeraj Nigam has been nominated by the Reserve Bank of India as executive director (ED), who would oversee four divisions, including consumer protection and education.
◉ He was the director of the RBI’s Bhopal regional office before being promoted to ED.
◉ Throughout the course of more than three decades, Nigam has worked for the Reserve Bank in a variety of capacities, including regulation and supervision, human resource management, property management, currency management, bank accounts, and other sectors.
5. Richard Verma is appointed deputy secretary of state by the US Senate.
◉ Richard Verma, an Indian American, was officially appointed as the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources by the US Senate.
◉ He is currently in charge of worldwide public policy at Mastercard and serves as its chief legal officer.
◉ From January 2015 until January 2017, Verma served as the US ambassador to India. He is currently MasterCard’s chief legal officer and head of global public policy.
◉ Verma has also held positions as Senior Counselor at the Albright Stonebridge Group, Partner and Senior Counselor at Steptoe and Johnson LLP, and Vice Chairman of The Asia Group.
6. Appointment of Sumil Vikamsey as CEO of Hitachi Payment Services
◉ Hitachi Payment Services has named Sumil Vikamsey its new managing director.
In place of the current MD Rustom Irani will be Vikamsey.
◉ Prior to this, Vikamse served as the CEO of Hitachi Payment Services’ Cash Business.
◉ Vikamse has had a variety of positions during his time at Hitachi Payment Services, including those in finance, strategy, development, analysis, the white-label ATM program, and related business fields.

7. Israel places a new spy satellite, the Ofek-13, in orbit.
◉ Israel has successfully used the Shavit launch vehicle to send the “Ofek-13” spy satellite into orbit from the Palmachim Airbase spaceport.
◉ Israel Aerospace Industries, a government-owned company, produced this satellite (IAI).
◉ The most advanced of its kind, the “Ofek 13” will allow intelligence gathering in any weather or visibility situation thanks to its unique radar observation capabilities.
◉ It is the most recent of several domestically made satellites that were launched into orbit for the first time in 1988.
◉ When Israel launched its first Ofek (Horizon in Hebrew) satellite in 1988, it became a member of the elite group of space powers.

9. Salim Durani, a former cricketer from India, went away.
◉ Salim Durani, a former all-rounder for India, went yesterday to Jamnagar, Gujarat, at the age of 88.
◉ In 1961–1962, he significantly impacted the series against England. Salim led India to victories in the previous two Test matches.
◉ From 1960 to 1973, he participated in 29 Test matches for India, accumulating 1,202 runs at an average of 25.04, including one century (a 104 against the West Indies in 1962) and seven fifty-pluses.
◉ He was a left-arm spinner who recorded 75 wickets at an average of 35.42.
◉ He represented Saurashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan in first-class cricket.
