1. In Purnia, Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the country’s first ethanol factory.
◉ In Bihar’s Purnia district, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched India’s first ethanol factory. Eastern India Biofuels Private Limited built the plant at a cost of Rs 105 crores. In the first part of 2021, Bihar announced an ethanol production promotion policy. It is the first grain-based ethanol facility in the country.
◉ The facility is 15 acres in size and is located in Ganeshpur Parora, about 12 kilometers from Purnia town.
2. India’s first home will be built at the Cochin Shipyard. Electric vessel powered by hydrogen
◉ Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said that India’s first indigenous hydrogen-fueled electric vessels would be developed and built at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), setting off the country’s efforts toward green shipping.
◉ He also announced the government’s goal to create such vessels in order to keep up with the Global Maritime Green Transitions at a session titled Green Shipping in India – 2022, organized by the Ministry in partnership with the shipyard and The Energy and Resources Institute.

3. India is the fourth best-represented country in the 2022 Impact Rankings.
◉ The Impact Rankings for 2022 have been announced by the Times Higher Education (THE). India has eight universities in the top 300 universities in the world.
◉ Western Sydney University (Australia) is ranked first, followed by Arizona State University (USA), and Western University (Canada) (Canada).
4. India is ranked 150th in the World Press Freedom Index 2022, whereas Norway is first.
◉ The 20th World Press Freedom Index 2022, published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), analyses the state of journalism in 180 countries and territories.
◉ India’s place in the Index has dropped from 142nd last year to 150th this year. With the exception of Nepal, India’s neighbors have similarly slipped down the rankings, with Pakistan ranked 157th, Sri Lanka 146th, Bangladesh 162nd, and Myanmar 176th. Nepal has moved up 30 places in the world rankings to 76th place.

5. To lower upfront premium costs, HDFC ERGO created the ‘Pay as you Drive’ scheme.
◉ The ‘Pay as you Drive’ service has been announced by HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company.
◉ This insurance provides distance-based coverage to lower premium costs upfront. Owners of new Maruti Suzuki automobiles in select cities will be eligible for the scheme through May 14, 2022.

◉ On November 30, 2021, Kapoor, a 1987-batch IAS official from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, retired as the secretary of the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
7. Rajiv Ranjan has been appointed to the RBI Monetary Policy Committee as an ex-officio member.
◉ The Reserve Bank of India’s Central Board of Directors has named Rajiv Ranjan as an ex-officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) (RBI).
◉ Mridul Saggar, who retired last month, was replaced by him. He was previously an advisor in charge of the monetary policy department before being promoted to executive director.
8. Nand Mulchandani is the first Indian-origin CIA chief technology officer.

◉ At the 14th edition of the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards, Doordarshan won the ENBA Award 2021 for the best in-depth Hindi series for its TV series based on pet care, ‘Best Friend Forever’ (ENBA).
◉ Best Friend Forever is a weekly half-hour live phone-in show on DD National in which two pet specialists advise individuals on how to care for their pets, including food, nutrition, routine health check-ups, immunization, and other pet-related matters.

10. IIT Bombay has collaborated with the India Meteorological Department to create a user-friendly weather forecasting app.
◉ The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay has struck an agreement with India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences’ Indian Meteorological Department to develop climate solutions for village, city, and district stakeholders.
◉ The agreement was signed on the tenth anniversary of IIT Bombay’s Interdisciplinary Program in Climate Studies (IDPCS), which was founded in 2012 with considerable funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Department of Science Technology.

11. Ronnie O’Sullivan has won the World Snooker Championship for the record seventh time.
◉ Ronnie O’Sullivan (England) won the 2022 World Snooker Championship by defeating Judd Trump (England) 18-13 in the finals, which were held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, from April 16 to May 2, 2022.
◉ The World Snooker Tour organized the tournament, which was sponsored by Betfred, a sports betting company. The total prize pool is 2,395,000 Euros, with 500,000 Euros going to the winner.
12. Harshada Sharad Garud won the first gold medal for India at the IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Greece.
