1. India and Israel have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in industrial R&D.
◉ With a focus on a number of important technological areas, India and Israel have signed an MoU on Industrial Research and Development Cooperation.
◉ These include aerospace, electronics, instrumentation, civil engineering, environment, mining, chemicals, petrochemicals, and agriculture, in addition to infrastructure and civil engineering.
◉ The Directorate of Defence Research and Development, the Ministry of Defence of Israel, and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, or CSIR, signed the Multi-Sectoral Agreement in New Delhi.
◉ The collaboration between India and Israel in fields like innovation, technology, and startups will enter a new chapter thanks to this agreement.
2. A facial recognition system for inner queue permits is introduced by the Manipur CM.
◉ The Facial Recognition System (FRS) for Inner Line Permit (ILP) system was introduced by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who also signalled the departure of two mobile FRS cars with cameras.
◉ Since the system has been operating on a trial basis for some time, it has been successful in identifying ILPS defaulters even during the trial period.
◉ Additionally, it will aid in more efficient system management and the checking of ILP holders whose validity has expired.
◉ In order to find ILP defaulters, two mobile vehicles would also be stationed at various areas in the Imphal East and West districts.
3. The 60th anniversary of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade’s founding
◉ On May 3, the 60th anniversary of its founding, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee.
◉ The commemorative issue of the Foreign Trade Review (FTR) Journal was released on this special occasion by Prof. Satinder Bhatia, vice chancellor of the IIFT.
◉ In its 60-year history, IIFT has continuously outperformed other top business schools by obtaining AACSB accreditation and delivering a wide variety of cutting-edge MDP/EDP programmes.

4. Dialogue Axiata and Bharti Airtel in Sri Lanka sign a legally binding contract sheet
◉ The largest telecom company in Sri Lanka, Dialogue Axiata, and Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel have agreed to a binding term sheet for the merger of their Sri Lankan operations.
◉ Bharti Airtel will have access to a sizable subscriber base in the island country as a result of this transaction.
◉ Upon completion of the acquisition, Dialogue would issue additional shares to Airtel.
◉ The proposed transaction is contingent on the execution of legal documents and fulfilment of other requirements, such as shareholder and required regulatory clearances.
5. In April 2023, India’s jobless rate reached a four-month high.
◉ India’s unemployment rate increased to 8.11% in April, a four-month high, according to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), up from 7.8% in March 2023.
◉ Rural unemployment decreased somewhat in April from 7.47% to 7.34%, but urban unemployment increased to 9.81% from 8.51% at the same time.
◉ The increase in labour force participation, which increased to 41.9% in April from 39.7% in March, is what caused the unemployment rate to increase.

7. Indian-Origin Ajay Banga has been chosen to lead the World Bank.
◉ Ajay Banga, the former CEO of Mastercard, was chosen by the 25-member executive board of the ◉ World Bank to serve as president for a period of five years beginning on June 2.
