1. Nuakhai, an agricultural festival, is held in Odisha.

2. In August, India’s jobless rate rose to a one-year high of 8.3%.
◉ Data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy show that in August, when employment decreased sequentially by 2 million to 394.6 million, India’s jobless rate rose to a one-year high of 8.3 per cent.
◉ With 397 million people employed in July, the unemployment rate was 6.8%.
◉ The unemployment rate in metropolitan areas is often roughly 8% greater than that in rural areas, which is typically around 7%.
◉ The unemployment rates in urban areas and rural areas also spiked in August, reaching respective highs of 9.6 per cent and 7.7 per cent.
3. The Meghalaya Chief Minister established the “Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme” to benefit farmers.
◉ Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, has introduced the “Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme.”
◉ To ensure that farmers can continue their way of life through various livestock agricultural endeavours.
◉ The government has allocated Rs 15.18 crore for the first phase of the Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme, which will be used to provide 6000 people with four enhanced, high-yielding types.
◉ The second phase of the initiative would be implemented with an additional investment of Rs 25 crore.
4. The Mahila Nidhi programme was established by the Rajasthani government to promote female entrepreneurs.
◉ The lending programme “Mahila Nidhi,” introduced by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, aims to make it simple for women entrepreneurs to obtain loans.

CM Ashok Gehlot introduced the “Mahila Nidhi” programme through the Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council in the budget for 2022–2023.
◉ Loans up to Rs 40,000 would be disbursed under the programme in 48 hours, and loans exceeding Rs 40,000 will be disbursed in 15 days.
5. Suzuki and NDDB have signed an MoU for a biogas demonstration project.
◉ To hasten India’s transition to carbon neutrality, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a biogas demonstration project.
◉ Suzuki and NDDB will conduct joint studies to assess the business model for potential future biogas commercialization and its potential for widespread use in an effort to form a joint venture.
◉ Methane, which is found in the dung of many cows in India, has a greenhouse effect that is 28 times greater than that of CO2 released into the atmosphere.

6. India surpasses the UK to become the fifth-largest economy in the world.

7. Cashback card launched by SBI Card
◉ The “cashback SBI Card” has been introduced by SBI Card, allowing cardholders to receive 5% cashback on all online purchases made with no merchant limits.
◉ Customers can apply for the card on the digital application portal “SBI Card SPRINT” from anywhere in the country, including tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
◉ As a special promotion, the contactless card is free for the first year till March 2023.
8. India’s GDP was predicted by SBI to grow by 6.8% in FY23.
◉ The State Bank of India has reduced its FY2023, full-year growth prediction from 7.5 per cent to a low 6.8 per cent.
◉ The National Statistical Office has released the Q1 growth figures, which revealed a consensus growth of 13.5%. However, the manufacturing sector’s weak performance—which reported a meagre 4.8 per cent expansion in the first three months of FY23—diminished the strong performance of the services sector.
◉ The RBI predicted the highest percentage, 16.7%, out of a range of 15–16.7 per cent.
9. According to RBI data, services exports rose 20.2% to $23.26 billion in July 2022.
◉ India’s services exports climbed by 20.2 per cent year over year to USD 23.26 billion in July, according to figures from the Reserve Bank of India.
◉ However, in 2022, July exports were $25.29 billion less than June exports.
◉ According to monthly data for July 2022 on India’s overseas trade in services, imports rose by 22.3% to $13.92 billion. The imports totalled 15.76 billion USD in June.
◉ Between April and July 2022–2023, exports totalled $94.75 billion, while imports came to $58.94 billion.

10. Jacobsen Kumar was selected to serve as the temporary chairman of AICTE’s University Grants Commission (UGC) The interim leader of the All India Council for Technical Education has been named Jagadesh Kumar (AICTE).

◉ The UGC Chairman position was given to M. Jagadesh Kumar on February 4, 2022.

12. The project to develop Tejas Mark-2 combat aircraft was authorised by the government.
◉ Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 2 fighter aircraft development has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
◉ It would take the place of the Indian Air Force’s combat Mirage 2000, Jaguar, and MiG-29 aircraft.
◉ The fighter jet’s development will cost more than Rs 6,500 crore, on top of the Rs 2,500 crore that was already approved for it.
◉ By 2027, all new aircraft will have been developed.

13. B. Sheik Ali, a historian, passed away recently
◉ Professor B. Sheik Ali, a renowned historian and the first vice chancellor of the universities in Mangalore and Goa have away.

◉ He served as the founding president of the South India History Congress in 1985 as well as the general president of the Indian History Congress at its 47th session in 1986.
