1. Villages in Uttar Pradesh will have access to free high-speed internet.
◉ The government of Uttar Pradesh plans to install free Wi-Fi in over 58 thousand locations throughout the state’s villages. People within 50 meters of the Gram Sachivalaya (village secretariat) building, which is being built in every Gram Panchayat in the state, will have access to the internet.
2. The ‘World’s Largest’ Film Restoration Project begins in India.
◉ Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, announced that the National Film Heritage Mission has been allocated Rs 363 crore for the world’s largest film restoration project.
◉ With a budget of 597 crore rupees, the mission was initiated in 2016. Its goal is to preserve, restore, and digitize cinematic history. Over 5900 short films, documentaries, and features are currently being restored, according to the Minister.
3. At Salvi, the NCRTC will receive India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System train set.
◉ The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will receive India’s first semi-high-speed train set for the Regional Rapid Transit System at Alstom’s Savli project in Gujarat (RRTS). The event will be attended by Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
◉ The RRTS train sets are manufactured under the Make in India program and have a top speed of 180 km/h. The train will be transferred to Uttar Pradesh’s Duhai Depot, where it will be refurbished and operational.

6. As DG, Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor assumes command (Inspection and Safety)
◉ Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor has been named Director General (Inspection and Safety) of the Indian Air Force, based at Air Headquarters in New Delhi. The Air Marshal is a graduate of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned as a Transport Pilot in the IAF’s Flying branch in December 1985.
◉ Sanjeev Kapoor attended the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, as well as the College of Defence Management and the National Defence College.

◉ The Asian Games 2022, scheduled for September in Hangzhou, China, has been postponed to 2023 due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
◉ The Asian Games’ governing body, the Olympic Council of Asia, has announced new dates for the 19th edition of the Games. The Asian Games 2022 were supposed to take place from September 10 to September 25.
◉ Hangzhou, the host city, is less than 200 kilometers from Shanghai, which is battling another big COVID-19 epidemic and has imposed stringent restrictions, including a weeks-long lockdown.
