National Current Affairs
1. The West Bengal government has developed a programme called ‘Paray Shikshalaya,’ which is an open-air classroom.
- For primary and pre-primary kids, the West Bengal government has started the Paray Shikshalaya (Neighbourhood Schools) open-air classroom initiative.
- Primary and pre-primary kids from government schools will be taught in open spaces as part of the ‘Paray Shikshalaya’ scheme. Students at ‘Paray Shikshalaya’ would also receive mid-day meals from the state government.
2. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Kanchoth celebration is held.
- The Nag followers commemorate the ancient festival of Kanchoth every year during the Shukla Paksha of Magh month, which usually falls in January or February.
- The event is observed with religious zeal throughout Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley (J&K).
3. Kerala and Social Alpha have agreed to work together to create clean energy technology.
- Kerala’s government has struck an agreement with Social Alpha’s Energy Lab’s “Clean Energy International Incubation Centre (CEIIC)” to assist innovative and clean energy technology programmes in the state.
- The Kerala Development & Innovation Strategy Council (KDISC) and the Energy Management Centre signed the agreement on behalf of the Kerala government (EMC).
4. Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 was launched by the Minister of Health.
- Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, has effectively launched Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 to protect infants and pregnant women from severe diseases.
- It will be held in 416 districts spanning 33 states and territories. It will be phased in over three years, starting on February 7, 2022.
5. Microsoft teamed with Sonata Software to launch ‘Microsoft Cloud’.
- Sonata Software, a global provider of IT services and technology solutions, announced cooperation with Microsoft for the introduction of ‘Microsoft Cloud for Retail.’
- For more than three decades, the company has been a Microsoft partner. The collaboration on the ‘Microsoft Cloud for Retail’ is anticipated to deepen the connection even more.
6. Amazon India and Karnataka have inked a memorandum of understanding to help rural women in the state become entrepreneurs.
- Amazon India and the Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to encourage the growth of women entrepreneurs.
- Amazon India will introduce ‘Sanjeevini-KSRLPS’ on its platform, extending the benefits of the ‘Saheli’ Program to train and empower thousands of rural women entrepreneurs, as well as provide online access to a larger market for their goods.

7. Bangladesh Railway and HEIL have agreed to buy 420 broad gauge waggons.
- In the presence of Md. Nurul Islam Sujon, Bangladesh Railway Minister, an agreement was signed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with Hindustan Engineering and Industries Limited (HEIL), a Hindustan Group firm, to acquire 420 broad gauge waggons from India.
- The overall cost of the arrangement is Tk 231 crore (Rs 200 crore in Bangladeshi Taka). The BR now operates 3,221 waggons, including 918 tank waggons, 1030 covered waggons, and 1273 open carriages.

8. NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani has been appointed.
- Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklan has been named the National Council for Educational Research and Training’s new Director (NCERT).
- Hrushikesh Senapaty, who served for a year, has been replaced. The new director has been appointed for a five-year term, beginning on the date of assumption of office and ending when he reaches the age of 65 or until further orders, whichever comes first.
9. Disha Patani has been named Bata India’s Brand Ambassador.
- Disha Patani, a Bollywood actress, has been named Bata India Limited’s Brand Ambassador.

10. Uttarakhand has appointed Akshay Kumar as its brand ambassador.
- Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Ahead of the 2022 Assembly Elections, Pushkar Singh Dhami has named Bollywood star Akshay Kumar as Uttarakhand’s brand ambassador.
- Akshay Kumar was named Uttarakhand’s brand ambassador for the ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ in 2017. Akshay Kumar is a Canadian-Indian actor, producer, and director who has appeared in over 100 films.
11. POSOCO’s CMD, SR Narasimhan, has taken on additional responsibilities.
- S.R. Narasimhan, Director (System Operation), has been named Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) in New Delhi, effective February 1, 2022.
- He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in finance from Harvard Business School. After an initial term with BHEL, he has over three decades of expertise in Power System Operation with CEA, POWERGRID, and POSOCO.

12. The AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 was won by China.
- China PR (People’s Republic) won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 final 3-2 over South Korea (Korea Republic) at the D. The Y. Patil Stadium is located in Navi Mumbai.
- China has won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the record-breaking 9th time. From January 20, 2022, through February 6, 2022, India will host the 20th edition of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022.

13. Karnataka’s ‘Kabir’ Ibrahim Nabisaheb Sutar, Padma Shri, died away.
- Padma Shri Ibrahim Nabisaheb Sutar, a social worker who was affectionately known as ‘Kabir of Karnataka,’ died at Mahalingpur, Bagalkot, Karnataka.
- In 1970, Ibrahim Nabisaheb Sutar was a member of the group that organised the “Bhaivaikyada Janapada Sangeetha Mela.” In 2018, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri for his contributions to art.
