Current Affairs of 16th Feb – National
1. Rajasthan has achieved the highest level of solar electrification under the Saubhagya Scheme.
- Rajasthan has the most houses electrified with a solar-based standalone system under the Saubhagya scheme.
- The initiative had no beneficiaries in the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim, as well as the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the Saubhagya Scheme, 2.817 million households were electrified up to March 31 last year, including 4.16 lakh through solar-based standalone systems.
2. The Telangana government has allocated Rs 2.26 crores to the Medaram Jatara Festival.
- The Government of India’s Ministry of Tribal Affairs has set aside 2.26 crores for the Medaram Jatara 2022 Festival in Telangana.
- Medaram Jatara, which will be held from February 16 to 19, 2022, is India’s second-largest fair after the Kumbh Mela.
3. Telangana has launched the world’s first all-female officers sailing excursion.
- At the Chennai Port Trust, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan launched off the Indian Army’s first-ever all-women officers offshore sailing expedition between Chennai and Vizag.
- The Governor thanked the Indian Army for welcoming women and for the increased role and respect they have today.
4. The Leh-based LAHDC has introduced the “Kunsnyom plan” for differently-abled people.
- The Kunsnyoms scheme for differently-abled people has been started by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Leh.
- Kunsnyoms means “equal for everyone” and “fair for all,” with the goal of making Ladakh more inclusive and accessible. Leh Hill Council is offering assistive gadgets and technologies to needy persons at a 90% subsidy via this programme.
5. The Ken-Betwa Link Project Authority was established by the Centre, along with a 20-member National Steering Committee led by Pankaj Kumar.
- For the implementation of the Ken-Betwa interlinking of rivers (ILRs) project, the Central Government has established a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), the Ken-Betwa Link Project Authority (KBLPA). The SPV will be led by an extra secretary-level CEO (Chief Executive Officer).
- It also established a 20-person National Steering Committee (SC) to oversee implementation. The committee will be chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti (currently Pankaj Kumar).
6. India has prohibited 54 Chinese smartphone apps due to security and privacy concerns.
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued temporary directives prohibiting the use of 54 Chinese-made mobile applications. Since May-June 2020, India has banned a total of 321 Chinese apps.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) proposed the prohibition because these apps represent a security risk to India. The 54 apps purportedly gather a variety of sensitive user data and permissions.

7. Vedanta has formed a joint venture with Foxconn to manufacture semiconductors in India.
- Vedanta, an Indian mining firm, has formed a joint venture (JV) with Hon Hai Technology Group (better known as Foxconn), a Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company, to manufacture semiconductors in India. The JV company’s Chairman will be Anil Agarwal, Vedanta’s non-executive Chairman.
- After the government established a Rs 76,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for semiconductor and display manufacturing, this is the first JV in the electronics manufacturing industry.
8. In January, wholesale price-based inflation fell to 12.96 percent.
- In January, wholesale inflation in India fell to 12.96 percent from 13.56 percent the previous month. Inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) has been steadily declining in recent months.
- It decreased from 14.87 percent in November 2021 to 13.56 percent in December 2021 and 12.96 percent in January 2022. Inflation, on the other hand, continues to be high and is a source of concern for policymakers.

- He took the place of IAS Manoj Ahuja, who was appointed as the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
10. Gita Mittal has been named head of the TTFI Committee of Administrators.
- Gita Mittal, a former Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, has been named Chairperson of the Committee of Administrators that will manage the Table Tennis Federation of India, according to the Delhi High Court (TTFI).
- The court ruled that all discussions on behalf of the TTFI with athletes or international sporting bodies must now go through the Committee of Administrators, and the incumbent office bearers will no longer be able to carry out their duties.

- Bappi Lahiri, a singer and songwriter, died in Mumbai at the age of 69. He had been ill for some time and died of Obstructive Sleep Apnea at CritiCare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai.
