The Meghalaya government key initiative of e-proposal system, part of Meghalaya Enterprise Architect has won a coveted UN Award- World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) prize at Geneva in Switzerland. Secretary General of ITU, Houlin Zhao presented the winner award to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the WSIS Forum Prizes 2022, held at Geneva, Switzerland.

During the celebration of World Environment Day 2022; the Chief Minister of Sikkim, P.S. Golay, declared Blue Duke as “State Butterfly of Sikkim”. Blue Duke was declared the state butterfly of Sikkim on the occasion of World Environment Day. Sikkim is home to around 700 butterflies, including the Blue Duke butterfly. Blue Duke butterfly, also known as Bassarona durga, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in the Himalayas.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore have designed a new class of artificial peptides or miniproteins that they say can render viruses like SARS-CoV-2 inactive. According to the study, published in the journal Nature Chemical Biology, the miniproteins can not only block virus entry into our cells but also clump virus particles together, reducing their ability to infect. The researchers noted that a protein-protein interaction is often like that of a lock and a key.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 is a two day event being held on 9th and 10th June. It is being organized by the Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). It is being held to mark completion of ten years of setting up of BIRAC. The theme of the Expo is ‘Biotech Startup Innovations: Towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat’.

Global economic expansion is expected to drop to 2.9% this year from 5.7% in 2021 — 1.2 percentage points lower than the 4.1% predicted in January, the Washington-based bank said in its latest Global Economic Prospects report.
