1. Chandigarh inaugurates the largest floating solar plant in North India.
◉ Chandigarh now has the largest floating solar plant in North India, with a 2000kWp capacity and a cost of Rs 11.70 crore, thanks to Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit.
◉ At Chandigarh’s Dhanas Lake, he also dedicated a 500kWp floating solar project with fountains. It was built for a total of Rs 3.34 crore.
◉ CREST conceptualized and carried out these initiatives (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society).
◉ With a 20% module efficiency, it will produce a minimum of 35 Lac Units (kWh) of solar energy annually.
2. ‘Green Railway Station Certificate’ presented to Visakhapatnam Railway Station
◉ By implementing green ideas, East Coast Railway’s Visakhapatnam train station was given the “Green Railway Station Certification with the highest rating of Platinum” by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
◉ One of the few train stations that receive this esteemed certification is Visakhapatnam. Six environmental categories yielded 82 out of 100 scores for Visakhapatnam.
◉ The Environment Directorate of Indian Railways and IGBC have worked together to develop the Green Railway Station Rating System.
3. The SCO Film Festival will take place in Mumbai.
◉ The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), on behalf of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival in Mumbai from January 27 to January 31, 2023.
◉ While India is holding the SCO Presidency, the SCO Film Festival is being held.
◉ The National Centre for the Performing Arts, NCPA, in Mumbai will host the opening ceremony on January 27 at Jamshed Bhabha Theatre.
◉ The festival’s opening feature will be the Tamil film “Appatha” by seasoned director Priyadarshan, which also serves as the lead actor in Urvashi’s 700th film.
4. Launch of a low-carbon cruise on Mahabahu by Hardeep S. Puri Brahmaputra
◉ The demo run of an inland water vessel fueled by methanol-blended diesel was inaugurated by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Housing, and Urban Affairs (MD15).
◉ The boat voyage was conducted on the “SB Gangadhar,” a 50-seat motor launch marine vessel.
◉ Two diesel engines made by Ruston are installed in the nautical craft (each engine of 105 hp). MD-15 (HSD mixed with 15% methanol) will be used to power the boat.
◉ Agricultural waste, CO2 from thermal power plants, high-ash coal, and natural gas are used to make methanol, a low-carbon hydrogen carrier fuel. It is the most effective strategy to fulfill India’s COP 21 pledge.
5. “Ideal Train Profile” is introduced by Indian Railways.
◉ Indian Railways has developed the “Ideal Train Profile” by continually monitoring demand changes in each reserved express train in order to maximize capacity utilization and revenue production.
◉ Seven zonal railways—the Eastern, Central, Northern, Southern, South Central, Western, and West Central Railways—began the test project.
◉ In Indian Railways, the pilot project has already been implemented in more than 200 trains. It’s anticipated that the utility will also aid in improving confirmed seat availability and boost train occupancy by up to 5%.

10. Dr. B.V. Doshi, a well-known architect, passed suddenly
◉ Balkrishna Doshi, a well-known architect and recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, passed away recently at the age of 95.
◉ Doshi received the esteemed Aga Khan Award in 1995 for the township’s “Aranya Low-Cost Housing” design.
◉ In addition, Doshi received the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 2020, India’s third-highest civilian honor.
