Current Affairs of 19th February – National News


1. Pune will house India’s first waste-to-hydrogen facility.
◉ The first waste-to-hydrogen plant in India will be built by the government at a cost of Rs 430 crores near Pune.
◉ Green Billion Limited, a private firm, will construct the plant.
◉ A 30-year contract between the business and the Pune Municipal Corporation has been struck.
◉ The plant’s goal is to process 350 tonnes of solid trash every day. From this, ten tonnes of hydrogen will be produced each day.

2. In Mumbai, the Divya Kala Mela 2023 is being held.
◉ From February 16 to February 25, the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry will host the Divya Kala Mela in Mumbai.
◉ The fair will display the goods and handiwork of Divyang business owners and craftsmen from all around the nation.
◉ Almost 200 Divyang artists, business owners, and entrepreneurs from about 24 States and Union Territories will present their work.
◉ Visitors to the festival will have an exciting time seeing colorful goods from different parts of the nation, including Jammu & Kashmir and the North Eastern states.

3. The sixth phase of Sujalam-Sufalam Jal Abhiyan was launched by Gujarat CM
◉ The sixth phase of the Sujalam-Sufalam Jal Abhiyan was introduced by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at Khoraj in Gandhinagar.
◉ The effort, which will last for 104 days through May 31st, aims to increase groundwater levels and make the most of the rains.
◉ All around the state, various construction projects for the deepening of lakes, delisting of check dams and reservoirs, building of new check dams, the construction of forest ponds and agricultural ponds, and cleaning of canals and banks will be carried out.

4. Twelve cheetahs were transported to Kuno National Park from South Africa.
◉ Twelve cheetahs were sent from South Africa to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park.
Five of the twelve cheetahs are female and seven are male.
◉ Federal Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Narendra Singh Tomar, as well as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, released these cheetahs into the Park.
◉ On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the governments of South Africa and India, the cheetahs are being imported to India as part of the Cheetah Reintroduction Programme.
◉ As a result, the cheetah population in Kuno National Park has grown from 8 to 20.

5. PM effectively launched Rajasthan’s Jal Jan Abhiyan.
◉ The Jal Jan Abhiyan has essentially been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Sirohi region of Rajasthan’s Abu Road.
◉ The major goals of this initiative are to encourage people to save water and plant trees alongside water harvesting.
◉ The Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Brahma Kumaris organization has launched this campaign.

6. Bangalore is ranked as the second-slowest city in the world to drive in.
◉ Bangalore has often ranked among the world’s slowest cities when it comes to traffic flow.
◉ The second-slowest city in the world to travel in is India’s Silicon Valley, where a 10-kilometer commute takes just 29 minutes and 10 seconds.
◉ The results were revealed in research by the Netherlands multinational location technology firm TomTom.
◉ Four other Indian towns made the list, with Pune earning a spot in the top 10 at number six.

7. EU officially forbids the sale of gas and diesel vehicles starting in 2035.
◉ Recently, the European Union announced plans to outlaw the sale of gas and diesel vehicles. In 2035, the prohibition will go into effect.
◉ The choice was taken to employ electric vehicles more frequently. To attain zero emissions is the key goal.
◉ Starting in 2025, the European Commission will prepare a progress report on the plan’s execution every two years.

8. 49th GST Council meeting held in New Delhi
◉ The GST Council convened its 49th meeting in New Delhi.
◉ Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, is presiding over the meeting.
◉ At the meeting, it was discussed how to avoid tax cheating in the pan masala and gutkha industries by establishing appellate tribunals and other safeguards.
◉ The GST Council advocated decriminalizing three distinct categories of offenses at its most recent meeting in December 2022, including intentionally obstructing an official from performing his responsibilities and tampering with tangible evidence.

9. The Army Vice Chief to be named is MV Suchindra Kumar
◉ The next Vice Chief of Army Staff has been named Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar.
◉ At the moment, he is the Army Headquarters’ Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy).
◉ Lt Gen Kumar will succeed Lt Gen B S Raju, who has been named the South Western Army Commander and is based in Jaipur.

10. Indian YouTube has selected Neil Mohan as its new CEO. The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YouTube is American executive Neil Mohan.
◉ Susan Wojcicki, who has stated her intention to leave the role after nine years, will be succeeded by him.
◉ He serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer for YouTube.
◉ In 2014, she was appointed CEO of YouTube from her previous position as senior vice president for advertising products at Google.
