1. On the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index, India came in at position 38.
◉ The Logistics Performance Index published by the World Bank places India at position 38.
◉ India was ranked 54th in 2014. From 2014 to 2022, it moved up to 16 positions. India rose from position 44 in 2018 to position 38 in the index of 139 countries.
◉ An interactive benchmarking tool called LPI was developed to assist nations in identifying potential for improvement and issues in trade logistics.
2. The NGT forms a commission to look into the disappearance of 1095 ponds.
◉ In order to look into the disappearance of 1095 ponds in the district of Kanpur Dehat in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) established a committee.
◉ Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, the NGT Chairman, will preside over the bench.
◉ The committee has been given two months to provide the NGT with a factual report on the matter.
◉ In a plea, the petitioner, Meghraj Singh, claimed that ponds were surveyed for fisheries in 2011–2012. In 1975, fisheries-suitable ponds were discovered, but hundreds of ponds encroached.
3. Signed by India and Guyana: Air Services Agreement
◉ In order to make travel between the two countries simpler, Guyana and India have signed an Air Services Agreement (ASA).
◉ Bishop Juan Edghill, the minister of public works, and KJ Srinivas, the high commissioner of India to Guyana, signed the agreement in the presence of EAM S Jaishankar, who is in Guyana for three days.
◉ The government’s goal of forging relationships between Guyana and the rest of the world is consistent with the agreement’s signing.
◉ It will also support the more than 50 air service agreements Guyana has inked for the development of interstate air travel with other ICAO governments.
4. By 2025, NHAI plans to build 10,000 km of “Digital Highways” throughout India.
◉ By the fiscal year 2025, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to build around 10,000 kilometres of Optic Fibre Cables (OFC) infrastructure throughout India.
◉ By creating integrated utility corridors alongside the national highways to create Optic Fibre Cables infrastructure, the network of “digital highways” will be implemented by NHAI’s special purpose vehicle National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML).
◉ According to the article, the administration has chosen 512 km on the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor and 1,367 km on the Delhi-Mumbai Motorway as the pilot tracks for the building of digital highways.
