1. In nearly the past five years, India’s domestic coal production has increased by nearly 22%.
◉ Over the past five years, India’s domestic coal production has increased by more than 22%.
◉ The country’s total coal production increased by around 22.6 percent to 893.08 million tonnes in the financial year 2022–23 from 728.72 million tonnes in the financial year 2018–2019.
◉ The Ministry’s first aim is to increase domestic coal production in order to decrease reliance on imports of substitute coal.
◉ In the last five years, Coal India Limited’s (CIL) production has grown by 15.9 percent, from 606.89 million tonnes in the Financial Year 2018-2019 to 703.2 million tonnes today.
