1. India will host the conference of world food regulators.
◉ In 2023, the Global Food Regulators Summit will be held in New Delhi. This is the first time a gathering of this nature has been planned as a G20 event.
◉ Food regulators from more than 40 nations, as well as representatives from 30 international organizations, 25 international research institutes, and universities, took part in this important gathering.
◉ Under the direction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) organized the conference.
2. ‘Heritage Point’ is unveiled by Lucknow University.
◉ At the zoology department of Lucknow University, a “heritage point” has been displayed that includes bricks from the 19th century and a 100-year-old wooden log.
◉ The goods commemorate the university’s 100th anniversary. Scientists estimate that the log, which was taken from a mango tree on the campus, is likewise older than a century.
◉ The heritage point’s proximity to a stone plaque that details the university’s development over time. The heritage point, which aims to show students the institution’s rich history, was officially opened by the vice-chancellor of the university.
3. Arunachal Pradesh celebrates the Chachin Grazing Festival.

◉ Chennai will host the inaugural Comic Con India event.
◉ The Chennai Comic Con will be held in the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam on February 17 and 18, 2024.

5. The biggest reptile refuge in the US wants to bring gharials here from India.
◉ The largest reptile bank in the US, situated in Arizona, requested permission from the federal government to bring six gharials and an equal number of mugger crocodiles into the US from Tamil Nadu, arguing that doing so would help protect these threatened species.
◉ The US Fish and Wildlife Service has received a request for authorization from the Phoenix Herpetological Society in this regard.
◉ The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in Tamil Nadu has granted permission to the Phoenix Herpetological Society to import three male and three female captive-bred gharials (Gavialis gangeticus) and three male and three female captive-bred mugger crocodiles (Crocodylus palustris kimbula and Crocodylus palustris).
6. India placed 80th in the 2023 Henley Passport Index, with Singapore taking the top spot.
◉ According to the most recent Henley Passport Index, Singapore has surpassed Japan to become the world’s most powerful passport in 2023. A Singaporean passport entitles its holder to visa-free travel to 192 nations.
◉ Along with Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden, Japan, which held the top slot for five years, is now ranked third on the list. These citizens are eligible for visa-free travel to 189 countries.
◉ With 184 visa-free destinations, the US, which previously topped the index over ten years ago, is now in eighth place, tied with Lithuania.

◉ India’s economic growth is still expected to expand at 6.4 percent for the current fiscal year (2023–2024), according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

◉ The ADB observed that as fuel and food costs reduce, inflation is anticipated to continue declining and will eventually return to its pre-pandemic levels.
◉ For developing economies in Asia, the bank predicted inflation would be 3.6 percent this year and 3.4 percent in 2024.
◉ In the fiscal year 2022–23, which concluded in March 2023, India’s economy expanded by 7.2 percent.

9. Champion of Healthcare Innovation Award given to Ami Bera
◉ Ami Bera, an Indian-American doctor who later entered politics, was recognized with the Champion of Healthcare Innovation Award for his efforts to improve access to and affordability of high-quality healthcare in the US.
◉ The council’s Innovation Expo was held here last week, and among those who helped was Bera, the longest-serving Indian-American member of the US Congress.
◉ Before taking office as a congressman in 2013, Bera served as Sacramento County’s chief medical officer. Since then, he has represented Sacramento County in the US House of Representatives.
◉ Currently, he is the chairman of the subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and nonproliferation of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
