1. Government postpones until November 1 the enforcement of import restrictions on laptops, PCs, and tablets
◉ The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) made a key late-night decision to postpone the license needed for the import of laptops, tablets, and personal computers in India.
◉ Due to security concerns and in an effort to support indigenous manufacturing, the government had previously put import restrictions on several goods.
◉ The introduction of the restrictions has been postponed until November 1, 2023, nonetheless, in light of recent events.
2. Amid controversy, TNPCB will hold a public hearing on the expansion of the Adani Kattupalli Port.
◉ The proposed expansion of the Kattupalli Port owned by the Adani group is scheduled to be discussed in public by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) in the Tiruvallur district.
◉ Environmentalists and opposition groups have voiced their vehement opposition to the proposal, which was originally supposed to be heard in January 2021 but was postponed because of COVID-19.
◉ Concerns have been raised regarding the extension’s potential environmental effects on the Ennore-Pulicat backwaters and the Pulicat Lake, one of India’s largest brackish-water ecosystems. The expansion seeks to transform the port into a multimodal cargo facility with considerable reclamation.

◉ The ‘MASI’ program was created by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to allow for nationwide real-time monitoring of Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and their inspection procedures.
◉ The Monitoring App for Seamless Inspection (MASI) was created with the main goal of ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the inspection mechanism for CCIs as specified by the Juvenile Justice Act of 2015.

4. Understanding the Effects of Losing a AAA Credit Rating on U.S. Debt
◉ In recent news, one of the top three international rating agencies, Fitch, lowered the credit rating of the United States from AAA to AA+.
◉ The best rating, AAA, demonstrates a nation’s outstanding capacity to pay back its debts. It denotes a potent capacity for repaying loans and offers insight into the borrower’s economic and financial well-being.
◉ Similar letter-based systems are used by the three major rating agencies, S&P Global, Fitch, and Moody’s, to rank credit ratings from AAA to D, with AAA being the highest and D denoting payment defaults.

5. SBI reports its highest-ever quarterly profit of 16.884 billion rupees.
◉ One of India’s main public sector banks, State Bank of India (SBI), released its financial results for the April–June 2023–2024 quarter. A huge increase from the bank’s lowest-ever quarterly profit of 6,068 crore to its highest-ever quarterly profit of 16,884 crore.
◉ An increase in interest income and a decrease in problematic loans were credited for this outstanding result.
◉ On a consolidated basis, SBI’s net income increased significantly, more than doubling to 18,537 crore from 7,325 crore the previous year.

6. Rajiv Gauba, the cabinet secretary, receives a one-year extension
◉ Rajiv Gauba, the cabinet secretary, now holds the record for the longest tenure in India’s history after the Central government formally granted him a one-year extension.
◉ The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) made the choice. Due to the loosening of significant regulations, he is now eligible to hold his position beyond August 30, 2023.
◉ With this extension, Rajiv Gauba would have served as the country’s cabinet secretary for longer than BD Pande, who held the office from November 2, 1972, to March 31, 1977.

7. The anti-tank-guided missile experiments in India were completed successfully.
◉ After passing all trials, India’s indigenous Nag Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) and the HELINA (Helicopter-launched NAG) Weapon System derivative known as “Dhruvastra” are expected to be included in the Indian army and Indian Air Force (IAF).
◉ Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) created the Nag ATGM, while Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) produced the Helina (Dhruvastra) missiles. Dhruvastra is an air-to-surface missile, whereas Nag is a surface-to-air missile.
8. Israeli Spike Missiles are acquired by the Indian Air Force
◉ Israeli Spike NLOS Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) with a range of up to 50 km from a helicopter and 32 km from the ground were delivered by air to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
◉ The fleet of Kazan Helicopters Mi-17V5 helicopters of Russian heritage will be equipped with NLOS missiles.
◉ Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli corporation, created it.

11. N Vittal, an IAS official and recipient of the Padma Bhushan, passes away
◉ N Vittal, an IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, passed away in Chennai.
◉ His more than 40 years of expertise encompassed a wide range, with a particular emphasis on industrial administration, science and technology, and security.
◉ He established policies for promoting software, creating software technology parks, and forming strategic alliances with the sector while serving as Secretary of the Department of Electronics (1990–1996). The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) was subsequently created as a result of this.
