1. CM of Rajasthan introduces a free food package program
◉ The Annapurna Food Packet Scheme, introduced by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, aims to provide free food packets to more than 10.4 million families each month.
◉ The program is a component of the $19,000 crore “Inflation Relief Package” that the chief minister unveiled in February as part of the state budget for 2023–2024 in an effort to relieve the population from rising prices.
◉ Each meal packet under the program will include one kilogram of chana dal, one kilogram each of sugar and salt, one liter of soybean refined edible oil, 100 g of coriander and chili powder, and 50 g of turmeric.
2. First-ever worldwide summit on traditional medicine is organized by WHO
◉ In Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, the Ministry of Ayush and the World Health Organization (WHO) have hosted the first-ever international meeting on traditional medicine.
◉ The event was officially opened by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of WHO, in the presence of Mansukh Mandaviya, minister of health, and Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, minister of Ayush.
◉ With the ultimate goal of ensuring health and well-being for all, the summit will provide experts and practitioners with a forum to explore the most recent scientific developments and evidence-based knowledge in the field.
3. In Varanasi, the Ministry of Youth Affairs will hold the Youth 20 Summit.
◉ From August 17 through August 20, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh will host the Youth 20 Summit-2023, which is being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
◉ The five Y20 themes will be discussed by more than 100 participants from the G20, guest countries, and international organizations.
◉ The following themes are among them: Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War; Future of Work: Industry 4.0; Innovation and 21st Century Skills; and Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.
4. Cabinet approves spending Rs 57,613 crore on 10,000 new e-buses.
◉ The PM-eBus Sewa program, worth Rs 57,613 crore, has been approved by the Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It would increase the use of electric buses in 169 cities.
◉ The plan will improve city bus operations, with emphasis given to cities without a formal bus system.
◉ The Center would contribute support of Rs 20,000 crore of the total Rs 57,613 crore stated for the project.
◉ According to Census 2011, the program will encompass cities with a population of at least 300,000.
◉ These include all of the Union Territories’ (UTs’) capital cities as well as the northeastern and hill states. For ten years, the e-buses will be made available through a public-private partnership (PPP).
