1. Bengaluru leads in startups run by women.
◉ Based on statistics from startup data platform Tracxn, the capital of Karnataka is home to 1,783 women-led firms, with Delhi and Mumbai, coming in second and third, with 1,480 and 1,195 startups, respectively.
◉ The cities of Noida, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad secured the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively, with 324, 184, and 181 women-led companies.
◉ India’s startup ecosystem, which now boasts over 61,400 companies, has gained strength to rank third in the world behind the US and China.
◉ With a supportive regulatory environment, Bengaluru has emerged as one of India’s leading startup scenes, encouraging entrepreneurs to take calculated risks. However, there is still a clear gender gap. Numerous programs, including fellowships, grants, and incubation programs for women-founded businesses, aim to close the gender gap.
2. Rajkumar Hirani will lead the jury for the best online series award at IFFI 2023.

6. Vinay Tonse becomes SBI’s MD
◉ Vinay M. Tonse has been named by the Indian government as the State Bank of India’s managing director through November 30, 2025.
◉ Tonse, who is now the deputy MD of the state-owned bank, was suggested for the aforementioned position earlier in September by the Financial Services Organizations Bureau (FSIB), which acts as a headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial organizations.
◉ Following Swaminathan Janakiraman’s appointment as Reserve Bank Deputy Governor, the position became vacant in June.
◉ In charge of SBI’s sizable corporate and commercial credit businesses as well as the bank’s subsidiaries, Swaminathan served as MD of corporate banking and subsidiaries and was a deputy governor of the RBI.
