1. The Bikaner, Rajasthan, International Camel Festival was inaugurated.
◉ The culturally diverse district of Bikaner, Rajasthan saw a fervent start to the three-day International Camel Festival.
◉ The streets were alive with color on the first day of the celebration as camels with decorations, people dressed in traditional robes, and women in bright costumes paraded through them.
◉ The cultural festival gained credibility as folk artists enthusiastically participated in the Heritage Walk, which began at Rampuriya Haveli. With traditional melodies, Rammats, and enthralling dances, local folk artists captivated the audience and gave them a glimpse into the vibrant local culture.
2. New Findings of Oil in the Krishna-Godavari Basin Through ONGC
◉ An important development in India’s energy industry has occurred with the government’s recent declaration of a new oil discovery in the Krishna-Godavari Basin.
◉ The Bay of Bengal finding, which was spearheaded by the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), is close to Kakinada’s shoreline.
◉ The oil was taken out of the Krishna Godavari Deep-Water Block 98/2, which is located about thirty kilometers off the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada. The Krishna-Godavari Basin’s recent crude finding marks a turning point in India’s energy development.
◉ According to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, production is anticipated to reach 45,000 barrels per day by the middle of 2024.
3. Shanghai’s NDB Agrees to Provide $500 Million Loan To Support Infrastructure Development in Gujarat
◉ During the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, the Shanghai-based New Development Bank (NDB) signed a deal promising the Gujarat government a sizeable $500 million loan. This cash infusion is intended for the state’s most important initiative, the Mukhayamantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
◉ The monies allotted would enable the building of almost 1,200 kilometers of highways, an essential project for improving accessibility and communication throughout the state.
◉ In addition to providing financial help, NDB is well-positioned to offer knowledge and skills. The emphasis also includes implementing safer road designs, adopting state-of-the-art technology, and engaging in ecologically responsible practices to strengthen the network of rural roads.
4. The Government of Maharashtra has recently declared the establishment of a new Conservation Reserve in the Atpadi region of Sangli district, named the ‘Atpadi Conservation Reserve’.
◉ The Atpadi Conservation Reserve hosts a diverse range of flora and fauna. It includes three types of forest cover: Semi-evergreen, moist deciduous, and dry deciduous. The area is home to 36 tree species, 116 herb species, 15 shrub species, 14 vine species, and 1 parasitic plant.
◉ A key objective of the Atpadi Conservation Reserve is to preserve the habitat of various mammals like wolves, jackals, deer, foxes, civets, rabbits, and other species. The establishment of the reserve will play a crucial role in the protection of these wildlife corridors.

5. For cross-border remittances between India and Singapore, NPCI Launches UPI-PayNow Linkage
◉ Direct transfers between Singapore and India are now possible thanks to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the UPI-PayNow linkage.
◉ The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) closely coordinated to create this partnership, which attempts to improve cross-border transaction convenience and financial inclusion.
◉ It is anticipated that additional banks and third-party apps, such as Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and others, will soon be included in the UPI-PayNow linkage.
◉ Using their virtual payment addresses or mobile numbers, UPI users in India can send money to PayNow users in Singapore, facilitating easy cross-border transactions.
6. SBI Launches Green Rupee Term Deposit (SGRTD).
◉ The State Bank of India (SBI), the largest bank in the country, has established a special fixed deposit program called as the SBI Green Rupee Term Deposit (SGRTD).
◉ With the help of this initiative, money intended to promote eco-friendly projects will be raised, helping to build India’s green finance ecosystem.
◉ According to the RBI’s notification of April 11, 2023, a green deposit is an interest-bearing deposit that regulated entities (RE) receive for a predetermined length of time. The proceeds of the deposit are designated for allocation towards green finance.
