1. Tamil Nadu’s “Jallikattu” Bull-Taming Festival Begins
◉ At the village of Avaniyapuram in the Madurai district, Tamil Nadu, a vibrant state in South India known for its cultural diversity and traditional celebrations, began the Jallikattu competition.
◉ The bull-taming sport of Jallikattu, a highlight of the Pongal harvest festival held in the second week of January, is set to expand its excitement over three days, with Avaniyapuram hosting the first day, Palamedu hosting the second, and Alanganallur hosting the third. The sport’s origins date back approximately 2,000 years, demonstrating a deep-rooted connection to Tamil Nadu’s cultural fabric. Originally used to choose appropriate bridegrooms, the ceremony has grown to represent bravery and tradition.
2. The Center for Policy Research’s FCRA Registration is revoked by the Ministry of Home Affairs
◉ The Center for Policy Research (CPR) in New Delhi has had its registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2020 withdrawn by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, citing infractions.
◉ Yamini Aiyar, the daughter of Congressman Mani Shankar Aiyar, is managing a major public policy research firm that has come under government inquiry for allegedly breaking FCRA standards.
◉ CPR’s FCRA license was temporarily suspended by the government last year for a term of 180 days, which was later extended by an additional 180 days.
◉ CPR, a well-known policy think-tank founded in 1973, is renowned for its cutting-edge research on a wide range of policy topics, with an emphasis on the difficulties India faces in the twenty-first century.
3. India Will Start Its Annual “Ramayan” Festival in Delhi
◉ India is going to start a year-long festival to celebrate Ramadan and its cultural importance to foster global ties.

◉ A draft framework for the creation and acceptance of self-regulatory organizations (SROs) in the fintech industry has been made public by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
◉ The proposed regulations seek to achieve a balance between encouraging sector innovation and guaranteeing that consumer safety and risk containment are given priority under the law.
◉ FinTech companies should be eligible to join the SRO-FT voluntarily to guarantee wide industry representation. The SRO-FT must be acknowledged as the principal body in charge of establishing norms of behavior and market standards.
