1. “PM Suryodaya Yojana” was introduced by PM Modi.
◉ The Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana is a government initiative that will provide rooftop solar power equipment to one crore families, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
◉ The website of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy states that as of December 2023, installed solar power capacity in India amounted to approximately 73.31 GW. As of December 2023, rooftop solar installed capacity is approximately 11.08 GW.
◉ Aiming to reach 40,000 megawatts (MW) or 40 gigawatts (GW) of cumulative installed capacity by 2022, the government began the Rooftop Solar Programme in 2014. A watt is a unit of electricity that is defined as the quantity of energy used over time, particularly one Joule per second. Nevertheless, it was not possible to meet this goal.
2. The Indian Stock Market Overtakes Hong Kong to Take the Fourth Place in the World Equity Market Ranking
◉ The Indian stock market is now the world’s fourth-highest equities market, surpassing even Hong Kong.
◉ The cumulative value of shares listed on Indian markets hit USD 4.33 trillion, vs USD 4.29 trillion for Hong Kong, according to data collated by Bloomberg.
◉ India is now the world’s fourth-largest equity market as a result. On December 5, its worth surpassed $4 trillion for the first time, with over half of that amount coming in the previous four years.
◉ The U.S., China, and Japanese stock markets are the top three.
◉ With a market capitalization of $50.86 trillion, the US leads the world’s markets, followed by China ($8.44 trillion) and Japan ($6.36 trillion).
3. The World’s Tallest Ambedkar Statue In the state of Andhra Pradesh
◉ The state government of Andhra Pradesh unveiled the tallest statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the man credited with designing and developing the Indian Constitution, in Vijayawada.
◉ It would be the highest Ambedkar statue ever built. Maryland, USA is home to one of the tallest Ambedkar monuments outside of India.
◉ The Statue of Justice, a statue of Ambedkar, is located at a height of around 206 feet. The Statue of Unity is the tallest in the world, and the Ambedkar statue in Andhra Pradesh is ranked among the top 50.
◉ The Statue of Justice is approximately 125 feet tall, on a pedestal measuring 81 feet.

4. North Korea tests a nuclear weapons system submerged in water.
◉ North Korea has tested its undersea nuclear weapons capability as a form of protest against joint military exercises with the US, Japan, and South Korea.
◉ The think tank of the defense ministry tested the “Haeil-5-23” system, which is the moniker North Korea has given to its nuclear-capable underwater attack drones, in the waters off its east coast.
◉ The new drone system, called “Haeil” (tsunami) was tested for the first time in March 2023. By detonating an undersea explosive device, a massive radioactive wave was to be created, allowing for stealth attacks into enemy waters and the destruction of naval strike groups and important operational ports.
5. Cabo Verde is certified by WHO to be malaria-free.
◉ Cabo Verde has been officially recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as being malaria-free, which is a major victory for global health.
With this news, Cabo Verde becomes one of 43 nations and one territory to receive this certification from WHO.
◉ In the WHO African region, Cabo Verde is the third certified nation, after Mauritius and Algeria, which received their certifications in 1973 and 2019, respectively.
◉ The African continent has the largest malaria burden; in 2021, it accounted for 95% of all malaria cases worldwide and 96% of deaths associated with the disease.
◉ The ten-island archipelago of Cabo Verde in the Central Atlantic Ocean has seen serious malarial outbreaks. Malaria plagued every island before the 1950s.

6. Tarun Khulbe becomes Jindal Stainless’s CEO
◉ Jindal Stainless Ltd. has named Tarun Khulbe as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Since May 2018, he has been the company’s full-time director. He will keep his position in addition to the CEO’s.
◉ Khulbe has worked in the business development, supply chain management, human resources, and IT enablement fields for around 35 years.
◉ In October 2004, Khulbe began working for JSL as the general manager of the cold rolling mills in Hisar, Haryana. India’s biggest producer of stainless steel is Jindal Stainless, which is a division of the O P Jindal Group.

9. The second phase of the India-Egypt joint exercise “CYCLONE” begins.
◉ A delegation of 25 Indian Army soldiers traveled to Egypt to participate in the second iteration of the “Cyclone” joint exercise between Egypt’s special forces and India’s special forces.
◉ The drill is scheduled to take place at Anshas, Egypt between January 22 and February 1, 2024. The exercise’s inaugural version was carried out in India the previous year.
◉ The purpose of the exercise is to familiarize both parties with one another’s operating procedures in light of UN Charter Chapter VII’s special operations in desert and semi-desert regions.
◉ There will be three phases to the exercise, which will entail organizing and carrying out special operations in the sub-conventional area.
