1. JBIC lends USD 200 million to NTPC for state-run renewable projects. The Japan Bank for International Co-operation and the NTPC group has signed foreign exchange loan agreements totaling JPY 30 billion, or around $200 million (JBIC).
◉ The policy-based financial institution of the Japanese government has provided a loan facility of around ₹1,650 crore, which is split equally between NTPC and its renewable energy solutions subsidiary, NTPC Renewables Energy (NREL).
◉ 60% of the facility amount has been supplied by JBIC, with the remaining 40% being provided by other commercial banks with a guarantee from JBIC.
◉ Under JBIC’s worldwide Action for Conciliating Economic Growth and Environment Preservation (GREEN) initiative, the facility has been extended for projects that guarantee environmental conservation on a worldwide scale.
2. SARL and IIT Madras collaborate to create a €100 million entrepreneurial hub.
◉ With financial backing of €100 million, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the French aerospace and defense company Starburst Accelerator SARL are collaborating to establish an innovative hub for start-ups.
◉ IIT Madras and Starburst will work together to establish accelerator programs that will strengthen India’s Aviation, Space, and Defense (ASD) industry.
◉ This cooperation will prioritize entrepreneurship, research parks, public and private investors, government agencies, and corporate enterprises.
◉ The goal is to establish creative startups and support their quick growth so they can support global aerospace and New Space activities in the future.
3. Adani Ports purchases 95% of Odisha’s Gopalpur Port from SP Group
◉ To increase its east coast presence, the billionaire Gautam Adani-run Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone will purchase a 95% interest in Odisha’s Gopalpur Port (GPL) for an enterprise value of Rs 3,080 crore and an equity value of Rs 1,349 crore.
◉ The company added that there is a contingent payment of Rs 270 crore in addition to the enterprise value, which is expected to become payable after 5.5 years, subject to certain conditions.
◉ Shapoorji Pallonji Group (SP Group), a real estate giant, would sell APSEZ, India’s largest private port operator, 56% of Gopalpur Port, and Orissa Stevedores, 39% of the port.

4. Indian Reserve Bank fines Janalaxmi Cooperative Bank in Nashik Rs 59.90 lakh.
◉ The Reserve Bank of India fined the Janalaxmi Cooperative Bank, located in Nashik, Rs 59.90 lakh for breaking rules.
◉ The bank had authorized credit facilities to its nominal members over the prescribed limit, opened or renewed term deposits at interest rates higher than those offered by the State Bank of India for the same tenor, and failed to form a board of management within the extended timeframe granted by the RBI.
◉ After serving the bank with a show-cause notice, the penalty was applied by the Banking Regulation Act’s provisions.
5. The government would borrow ₹7.5 crore between April and September.
◉ The government intends to borrow ₹7.5 lakh crore from April 1 to September 30 of this year.
◉ The interim budget has targeted ₹14.13 lakh crore in gross borrowing for FY25 to close the gap between revenue and expenses.
◉ This indicates that, in the first half of the current fiscal year, 53% of the annual objective would be borrowed, which is less than the 60% or more of past years.
6. S&P Global upgrades its estimate for India’s GDP growth in FY25 to 6.8%.
◉ India’s GDP growth forecast for the Financial Year 2024–25 (FY25) has been revised upward by 40 basis points by S&P Global, to 6.8%, or less than the government and central bank’s 7% estimate.
◉ It is projected that the Indian economy will grow by 7.6% during the current fiscal year.
◉ Based on strong internal momentum, the U.S.-based organization predicted in November of last year that India’s growth will be 6.4% in the 2024–25 fiscal year.

◉ The Union Public Service Commission has chosen to appoint Hansha Mishra (IA&AS) as Director (UPSC).
◉ He has been chosen for the Central Staffing Scheme appointment, which will serve him for five years from the moment he assumes control of the position or until future directives, whichever comes first.
◉ Mishra is an officer in the 2010 batch of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS).
8. The Prime Minister of Portugal is Luis Montenegro.
◉ After eight years of socialist control, Portugal’s president has invited Luis Montenegro, the leader of the center-right Democratic Alliance (AD), to form a minority government.
◉ Following the tabulation of ballots from overseas, the eagerly awaited results of the March 10 elections were released late on Wednesday. The findings showed that AD had gained 80 members in the 230-member parliament, with the Socialist Party and the far-right Chega party coming in second and third with 78 and 50 seats, respectively.

11. Lakshmi Narayanan Seshu, a Tamil actor, passes away
◉ At the age of sixty, Chennai saw the passing of actor Lakshmi Narayanan Seshu, affectionately known as Lollu Sabha Seshu.
