1. First commercial crude oil strategic storage will be built in India
◉ By 2029–2030, India intends to construct its first privately managed strategic petroleum reserve (SPR), which will allow the operator to freely exchange all of the oil that has been stockpiled.
◉ Enabling a fully commercial SPR is similar to the approach taken by nations like South Korea and Japan, which permit private lessees—mostly oil majors—to exchange crude.
◉ With a total capacity of 36.7 million barrels, India’s three operational SPRs in southern India have only been permitted to be partially commercialized thus far.
2. In FY’24, the government raised Rs 16,507 crore from disinvestment in public sector firms.
◉ In the 2023–24 fiscal year, the government sold minority stakes in state-owned businesses for Rs 16,507 crore, less than anticipated in its revised forecasts.
◉ The government used an offer for sale (OFS) to sell shares in ten central public sector firms (CPSEs) during the 2023–24 fiscal year, which concluded on March 31.
◉ Share sales for NHPC and NLC India brought in Rs 2,488 crore and Rs 2,129 crore, respectively, while Coal India’s share sales brought in Rs 4,186 crore. Through the IREDA’s first public sale, the government was able to raise Rs 858 crore.
◉ In addition, the government received remittances from SUUTI and sold interests in RVNL, SJVN, IRCON International, and HUDCO.
3. SJVN and IIT-Patna collaborate to enhance the performance of tunneling projects.
◉ With the signing of an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna), SJVN, formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, will employ cutting-edge geological models in its tunneling projects, thereby cutting down on time and expense overruns.
◉ The creation of predictive analytics algorithms will be one of the main results of this collaboration.
◉ These algorithms will predict possible hazards and offer early warning systems designed especially for tunneling projects by utilizing integrated geotechnical data. It is anticipated that taking such preventative steps will significantly reduce time and expense overruns during project execution.

5. The Central Bank of India and Veefin Solutions collaborate to launch supply chain financing
Supply chain finance (SCF) operations have been launched by the Central Bank of India, a public sector bank with headquarters in Mumbai, in collaboration with Veefin Solutions, India’s digital lending platform.
◉ The bank’s only technology provider will be Veefin Solutions, which will provide an end-to-end SCF stack to support its SCF solutions.
◉ Through this partnership, the bank will be able to provide its corporate and SME clients with entirely digital onboarding, sanctioning, and round-the-clock disbursement processes via Veefin’s Loan Origination System (LOS) and SCF Loan Management System.
