National
1. Kisan Sarathi, a government-run digital platform, has been launched.
- To help farmers access the correct information at the right time in their preferred language, the government launched the digital portal Kisan Sarathi.
- On the occasion of the 93rd ICAR Foundation Day, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Electronics & Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly launched the platform Kisan Sarathi through video conference.
2. On top of the renovated Gandhinagar Railway Station, the Prime Minister inaugurates a five-star hotel.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Gandhinagar train station, which will soon be equipped with world-class amenities comparable to those seen in major airports.
- The renovated station has been equipped with a specific low-height ticketing booking window, lifts, ramps, and a designated parking area for disabled passengers.
3. India Will Meet More Than 33% of the Paris Agreement’s Carbon Emission Target by 2030: Power Minister Union Minister R K Singh expressed confidence that India will meet or exceed the Paris Agreement’s carbon emission reduction target of 33% by 2030.
- The Power, New and Renewable Energy Minister stated at the opening session of the CII-organized Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Self-Reliance for Renewable Energy Manufacturing conference that India must cut its carbon intensity to 33% by 2030 in order to meet its Paris promise.
4. Through a Memorandum of Understanding with MapmyIndia, MeitY makes map services available in the UMANG App.
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has enabled map services in the UMANG App under a Memorandum of Understanding with MapmyIndia, in order to support the Digital India Programme’s goals.
- Citizens will be able to find government facilities such as mandis, blood banks, and other services near them at the touch of a button thanks to the integration of UMANG with MapmyIndia.
5. India will be the first country to offer a Pod Taxi service between Noida Airport and Film City.
- Between Noida Airport and Film City, the country’s first pod taxi will operate. As soon as the flight departs from Noida airport, it will begin running on the track. From Noida Airport to Film City, this driverless pod taxi will travel 14 kilometres.
6. Telangana’s ‘Bonalu’ celebrations
- The ‘Asha Bonalu’ festival, one of the state’s largest traditional folk festivals, was held in Telangana. After the state was formed in 2014, the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led administration proclaimed the Bonalu festival a “state festival.”
- Thousands of worshippers serve the traditional ‘bonam’ (derived from Bhojanam, meaning meals) to the goddess Mahankali at 25 temples around Hyderabad and Secunderabad during the Bonalu festival.
7. The Chief Minister of Meghalaya has launched a facial recognition system. A mobile app for retirees
- Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, has created a mobile app called “Pensioners’ Life Certificate Verification,” which would provide pensioners with a simple way to authenticate their existence to the pension disbursing authorities. Using face recognition, this app will provide information regarding a pensioner’s life certificate.
- A chatbot dubbed MEDA has also been added into the App for improved end-to-end service delivery, where seniors can ask questions and enter recommendations for improving the App, which will be monitored.
8. Interweave collaborates with UN Women to implement the UN’s Women’s Empowerment Plan (WEP) in Indian corporations.
- Interweave, a diversity consulting firm, has teamed up with UN Women, the UN agency for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, to help Indian businesses apply Women’s Empowerment Principles.
- Interweave Consulting will now provide technical assistance to corporations in order to help them implement these principles, which will encompass everything from creating high-level leadership commitment to gender equality to fair work practises that include equitable access to opportunities.
9. India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives are participating in a trilateral maritime security tabletop exercise.
- Top defence officials from India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives met virtually for a trilateral tabletop exercise to explore best practises and procedures for combating common transnational maritime crimes such as narcotics control and maritime search and rescue.
- The Maritime Warfare Centre in Mumbai coordinated the two-day exercise TTX-2021, which took place on July 14 and 15, and was aimed at improving mutual understanding and exchanging best practises processes for combating common transnational crime.
10. The Indian Navy has received the first of two MH-60R Multi-Role Helicopters from the United States.
- In a ceremony held at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, the Indian Navy accepted the first two of its MH-60R Multi Role Helicopters (MRH) from the US Navy. The ceremony marked the formal transfer of these helicopters from the US Navy to the Indian Navy, which was accepted by Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
- The Lockheed Martin Corporation’s MH-60R helicopter is an all-weather helicopter with cutting-edge avionics and sensors that can support numerous missions.
International News
11. According to UNICEF, India has the highest number of under-vaccinated or unvaccinated children in the world, with 3.5 million, a rise of 1.4 million from 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. It was also stated that by 2020, India would have over 3 million zero-dose children.
- In 2020, South Asia had the highest number of children who had not received any routine immunisation in the last ten years, with over 4.4 million.
12. One-third of countries are doing little to help kids make up for lost time due to COVID-19 school cancellations.
- According to a global “Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School Closures” conducted by UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and the OECD, around one in three nations where schools are or have been closed have yet to develop corrective programmes following COVID-19 school closures.
- Fewer than a third of low- and middle-income nations reported that all students had returned to in-person schooling, putting them at greater risk of learning loss and dropping out.

13. Within the software, BUSY Accounting Software interacts with ICICI Bank for banking solutions.
- For banking solutions, BUSY, one of India’s leading company accounting software companies, has teamed with ICICI Bank. The link will give BUSY users easier access to their banking, allowing them to improve their company efficiencies while using BUSY.
- Current account holders of ICICI Bank may now securely connect their bank account to their BUSY Accounting Software thanks to this agreement.

14. For Rs 3,497 crore, Reliance buys a 40.95 percent stake in Just Dial.
- Reliance Retail Ventures, a Reliance Industries affiliate, announced the purchase of 40.95 percent of Just Dial for Rs 3,497 crore. According to a regulatory filing, RRVL would make an open offer to purchase up to 2.17 crore equity shares of Just Dial, representing a 26 percent ownership, in compliance with Sebi Takeover Regulations.
- VSS Mani will remain as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Just Dial during the company’s next phase of expansion, according to the company.

15. Gokulam Kerala FC will compete in the AFC Women’s Club Championship for India.
- Following the cancellation of the Indian Women’s League, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has nominated Gokulam Kerala FC to represent India in the AFC Club Championship 2020-21.

16. Shibaji Banerjee will get the Mohun Bagan Ratna award. Posthumously
- Shibaji Banerjee, a former India goalkeeper who shone in an exhibition match against Pele’s Cosmos Club in 1977, will be awarded the Mohun Bagan Ratna posthumously. The members of the executive committee also unanimously named Fijian striker Roy Krishna as the Best Footballer of 2020-21, after he led ATK Mohun Bagan to second place in the Indian Super League.
- Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran was awarded Best Cricketer, while Bidisha Kundu was named Best Athlete after winning the 100m hurdles and high jump in the National Championship.

17. HarperCollins has announced the publication of Imtiaz Anees’ book “Riding Free: My Olympic Journey,” which tells the narrative of an Indian horse rider and his Olympic goal.
- Imtiaz Anees is a licenced Level 2 instructor and coach educator, as well as an equestrian Olympian, trainer, competitor, and NBC commentator. He wants to share his skills and experience with all other riders as India’s sole equestrian Olympian, and he offers internship programmes to teach horse management through the book.
18. Vijay Gokhale’s book “The Long Game: How the Chinese Negotiate with India”
- Since the 1950s, India and China have had a strained relationship. The Long Game, written by Vijay Gokhale and published by Penguin Random House, examines the Chinese diplomatic strategy and tactics. Gokhale is a specialist on Chinese diplomacy, having spent over four decades in the Indian Foreign Service until retiring as foreign secretary in January 2020.

19. Danish Siddiqui, an Indian photojournalist, has died.
- Danish Siddiqui, a well-known photojournalist, was murdered while reporting a conflict between Afghan security forces and Taliban terrorists near the Pakistani border. Over the last two days, the Pulitzer Prize-winning top photographer had been covering the Afghan-Taliban combat for Reuters.
20. Gautam Benegal, a cartoonist and filmmaker, has died.
- Gautam Benegal, a National Award-winning writer, painter, cartoonist, and animation filmmaker, died of a heart arrest at the age of 56.
- Gautam began his career as an illustrator for the children’s magazine Sandesh when he was sixteen years old. He worked for India’s Films Division, and his films have been nominated for film festivals in Tehran, Belarus, Hiroshima, and Cairo, among others. The Prince and the Crown of Stone won the National award (Rajatkamal) for Best Animation Film in 2010.
