1. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has launched the SAMRIDH programme to help India’s startup ecosystem.
- The “Start-up Accelerators of MeitY for pRoduct Innovation, Development, and Growth (SAMRIDH)” programme has been created by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for MeitY, started the programme.
- The SAMRIDH program’s goal is to provide a suitable environment for Indian software product start-ups to improve their products and secure financing to help them scale their businesses.
2. The Jal Shakti Ministry has launched a 100-day ‘SUJALAM’ campaign.
- The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched the SUJALAM campaign, a 100-day programme aimed at increasing the number of Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus communities by improving waste water management at the village level.
3. Ohmium International, based in the United States, has opened India’s first green hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The plant would produce hydrogen electrolyzers built in India using Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology.
- Green hydrogen comes from non-fossil sources, and blue hydrogen comes from fossil fuels. Rather than importing green hydrogen, producers will save money by producing it in India.
4. Ashwini Vaishnaw establishes the SAMRIDH programme to help India’s startup environment.
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) launched the “Start-up Accelerators of MeitY for Product Innovation, Development, and Growth (SAMRIDH)” programme on August 25, 2021.

5. The world’s highest observation wheel, dubbed “Ain Dubai,” will be presented in the United Arab Emirates.
- On October 21, 2021, the world’s largest and highest observation wheel will be revealed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
- Bluewaters Island is home to the ‘Ain Dubai’ observation wheel, which stands at a height of 250 metres (820 feet).
6. China leads the Global Manufacturing Risk Index for 2021.
- The Global Manufacturing Risk Index for 2021 has been announced by Cushman & Wakefield. According to the ranking, China is the most advantageous site for international production. In the 2021 Global Manufacturing Risk Index, India and the United States came in second and third, respectively.
7. The 11th BRICS NSA Virtual Meeting is chaired by Ajit Doval.
- The 11th Meeting of the BRICS High Representatives for National Security was held by video conferencing on August 24, 2021.
- Since India is hosting the BRICS summit in 2021, the meeting was hosted by Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor. In September 2021, the 15th BRICS Summit will take place.
8. KAZIND-21, the 5th India-Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise, will begin on August 30.
- The 5th Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise, “KAZIND-21,” will take place in Aisha Bibi, Kazakhstan, from August 30 to September 11, 2021.
- The joint training exercise would strengthen India’s and Kazakhstan’s armed forces’ ties.

9. Sandeep Bakhshi’s re-appointment as MD and CEO of ICICI Bank has been approved by the RBI.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has confirmed Sandeep Bakhshi’s re-appointment as ICICI Bank’s MD and CEO.
- From October 15, 2021, through October 3, 2023, this will be in effect.
10. For Rs 222.71 crore, HDFC Bank sells its 2% share in CDSL.
- HDFC Bank sold a 2% share in Central Depository Services (India) Ltd (CDSL) in two tranches for Rs 222.71 crore between June and August 2021.
- Market participants can use CDSL’s depository services. It provides three services: depository, data entry and record keeping for capital market investors’ KYC documents, and repository.

11. BharatPe has launched the ‘12 percent Club’ peer-to-peer lending app.
- BharatPe has introduced the “12 percent Club” app, which allows users to invest and earn up to 12% yearly interest or borrow at the same rate.
- For this app and lending arrangement, BharatPe has teamed with LenDenClub (an RBI-approved NBFC).
12. Infosys is the fourth Indian business to have a market capitalization of $100 billion.
- Infosys became the fourth Indian business to reach a market value (m-cap) of $100 billion on August 24, 2021.
- The first three firms to reach a market valuation of $100 billion were TCS, Reliance Industries, and HDFC Bank.

13. Shot-putter At the Tokyo Paralympics opening ceremony, Tek Chand carried India’s flag.
- Shot-putter from India On August 24, 2021, Tek Chand was the flag-bearer for the Indian contingents at the Paralympics opening ceremony in Tokyo.
- Tek Chand took the place of Rio Olympics gold medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu, who had been designated as the flag bearer. However, he and five other para-athletes were quarantined after coming into close contact with a COVID positive person on their travel to Tokyo.

15. SS Hakim, a former national player, died at the age of 82.
- Syed Shahid Hakim, a former Indian footballer who was part of the Indian team that competed in the 1960 Rome Olympics, died of a stroke. He was 82 years old at the time.
- Hakim saab, as he was known, was 82 years old when he died.
16. O Chandrasekharan, a former Indian footballer, died at the age of 86.
- O Chandrasekharan, a former Indian footballer, died in Kochi at the age of 86.
- He was a member of the Indian Olympic teams that competed in Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964.
