1. In the Maldives, India has signed an agreement for social housing units.
- EXIM Bank of India has reached an agreement with the Maldives’ Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) to provide a $228 million Buyers Credit for the development of 4000 social housing units in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
- National Buildings Construction Company (NBCC) and JMC Projects (India) Ltd will be in charge of the construction. Both in India and overseas, the enterprises have extensive experience in real estate development and civil construction projects.
2. Mumbai, Bangalore, and London have been rated among the top startup centres in the world.
- According to a detailed assessment of worldwide startup hubs collected by Startup Genome for its annual Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2021, London, Mumbai, and Bangalore are among the world’s top startup hubs.
- This year, Silicon Valley remained at the top, with Beijing and Boston coming in fourth and fifth, respectively. Despite Brexit and the coronavirus outbreak, London tied with New York for second position for the second year in a row.
3. By March 2022, India and the United Arab Emirates will have signed a trade agreement.
- India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have begun formal negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to boost bilateral trade and investment.
- The first round of CEPA talks took place. Both countries want to sign a deal within the next six months.
4. Haryana approves the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana’s implementation.
- The Haryana Cabinet has approved the launch of the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana (MBBY), an assurance-based scheme to pay farmers farming horticultural crops for crop losses caused by harsh weather and natural calamities.
- Farmers are only required to contribute 2.5 percent, or Rs 750 for vegetable and spice crops and Rs 1000 for fruit crops, against a total promised of Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively, under this scheme.
5. The SAUBHAGYA Scheme has successfully completed four years of implementation.
- On September 25, 2021, the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana-“Saubhagya Scheme” achieved four years of successful implementation.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the plan on September 25, 2017, with a budget of Rs. 16,320 crore.

6. Accra has been designated as the UNESCO World Book Capital for 2023.
- Following the examination of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee, Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has nominated Accra (Ghana) as the UNESCO World Book Capital for 2023.
- Accra was chosen after Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2022 because of its strong focus on young people and their ability to contribute to Ghana’s culture and prosperity.
7. Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, has launched a space startup called Privateer Space.
- Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, has teamed up with Alex Fielding, creator of Ripcord Inc., to launch Privateer Space, a new space enterprise.
- The ‘Privateer’ will be a private corporation whose aim will be to “keep Space safe and accessible to all humanity.”
8. Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has been named as the WHO’s Global Health Financing Ambassador.
- On September 20, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) will appoint Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as its ambassador for Global Health Financing.
- Brown’s role as an ambassador will be to elevate and support WHO’s efforts to increase worldwide awareness about the critical need for long-term global health funding, particularly among G20 and G7 countries.

9. Deposits in banks have increased by 11.90 percent. According to RBI data, bank deposits increased by 11.9 percent year over year in fiscal year 2020-21, compared to 8.8 percent the previous year, owing to strong growth in current account and savings account (CASA) deposits.
- The RBI also stated that CASA deposits climbed from 41.7 percent a year earlier to 43.7 percent in March 2021. The household sector accounted for 64.1 percent of total deposits among institutional categories, according to the central bank.

13. India has signed a contract to buy 56 C-295MW transport planes.
- The Indian Air Force has secured a contract with Spain’s Airbus Defence and Space Company to purchase 56 C-295MW transport aircraft. The contract was signed by the Ministry of Defense and Airbus Defence and Space. Airbus Defence and Space also signed an Offset Contract with the company.
- The introduction of the C-295MW will mark a significant step forward in the modernization of the Indian Air Force’s transport fleet. The 56 C-295MW transport planes are equipped with cutting-edge technology and will replace the IAF’s ageing Avro transport planes.
14. According to a research from the United Kingdom, India would become the third largest importer by 2050.
- According to a report provided by the UK’s Department of International Trade, India might become the world’s third-largest importer by 2050. By 2050, the country will be the third-largest importer, behind China and the United States, with a 5.9% share of global imports.
- India is currently ranked ninth on the list of the world’s major importers, with a share of 2.8 percent. According to the Global Trade Outlook report, the country would rise to fourth place on the list by 2030, with a 3.9 percent stake.

10. Magnus Carlsen wins Norway Chess 2021 For the third year in a row, and the fourth overall, GM Magnus Carlsen has won the Norway Chess tournament. The world champion received the armageddon sport against world championship challenger GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, who finished fourth, just like he did in the first part of the event.
- GM Alireza Firouzja finished second, equal to the previous year, after defeating and overcoming GM Richard Rapport.

11. Government e Marketplace wins prestigious CIPS Award The CIPS Excellence in Procurement Awards 2021 selected Government e Marketplace (GeM) as the winner in the “Best Use of Digital Technology” category (CIPS Awards).

12. Teesta-V Power Station of NHPC has been awarded the IHA Blue Planet Prize.
- The International Hydropower Group (IHA), a London-based non-profit membership association operating in 120 countries, has awarded the renowned Blue Planet Prize to NHPC’s 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in the Himalayan State of Sikkim.
- The Teesta-V Power Station won the award at the World Hydropower Congress in 2021.
