About RRB Group D

In 2018 Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has come up with 62907 RRB Group D vacancies to fill up Gateman, Pointsman, Porter, Helper & few other posts in the Railway department across all regions.

Railway Group D Recruitment 2018 will be held to employee candidates to the post in Level 1 of 7 CPC Pay Matrix. Railway Recruitment Board conducts Group D examination giving candidates a golden opportunity to fulfil their sole dream of linking the prestigious Government Sector

The online application form for Railway Group D recruitment 2018 has been closed now. The exam date of Railway Group D 2018 exam has been announced. As per the Railway’s official notice, RRB Group D exam will be conducted in September 2018. Some source suggests, Railway Recruitment Board will be conducting RRB Group D Exam in the name-wise order.

RRB Group D Job Profile

Let us now know the responsibilities & duties of various Group D posts:

Porter/Hamal/Sweeper: The work of a railway porter is to help passengers at the railway stations. Porter handles the loading, unloading, and distribution of luggage and parcels. Sweeper’s work is to maintain general cleanliness &upkeeping the Section/ Unit. The work may also include cleaning of the building, fixtures etc.

Assistant Pointsman: The work of pointsman is to handle railroad points or switches. Poinstman controls the lever and jerks the train into the required tracks or desirable direction. His work also includes disconnecting or connecting a particular coach from the train.

Helper: Helper’s job depends upon the field/ department he/she is posted. For example:

  • In the workshop field, the work profile is related to the maintenance/construction of train coaches.
  • In the track machine field, Helper maintains/adjusts/manages the tracks with the help of a machine.
  • In the signal & telecommunication field, Helper repairs/maintains the signals.

Hospital Attendant: This post is best suitable for women. It is an indoor job and work profile is related to medical facilities.

Gateman: Gateman is the in charge of a level crossing on a railway line.The work includes opening or closing the gates by hand or machine for the passage of trains, road vehicles and pedestrians. Gateman has a cabin next to the level crossing.

RRB Group D Exam Pattern

RRB Group D selection will be based on 3 stages as follows:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3. Document Verification
  4. 1. Computer Based Test

The CBT will be the first stage of selection that will be based on the following pattern:

  • 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • The questions will be of objective type with multiple choices.
  1. Physical Efficiency Test

If you qualify the CBT then you will be called for a Physical Efficiency Test which following will be of the pattern:

  • Lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
  • Run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance.
  • Lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down.
  • Run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

 

  1. Document Verification
  • Based on the performance of the candidates in the CBT subject to their qualifying in PET, candidates will be called for document verification.
  • Thereafter, the final selection will be made.

RRB Group D Syllabus

Railway Group D is conducted in three different levels.
