1. In West Bengal, SIDBI established the ‘Waste to Wealth Creation programme.
- SIDBI, India’s Small Industries Development Bank, has started a ‘Waste to Wealth Creation’ programme for women in West Bengal’s Sundarbans.
- The women will use the fish scales to construct decorations and showpieces. SIDBI will provide benefits to 50 women while also earning revenue through alternative sources of income.
2. SIDBI has worked with the Bihar government to encourage MSME development. SIDBI has teamed with the Bihar government to develop the state’s MSME ecosystem. It signed two Memorandums of Understanding with the Bihar Industries Department and the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA).
- It will use Project Management Units (PMU) to make essential interventions to help the MSME ecosystem develop under the terms of the MoU. SIDBI is the country’s primary financial institution for MSME growth.
3. Gujarat has issued a new Biotechnology Policy for the years 2022-2027.
- Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has unveiled a new biotechnology policy for the years 2022-2027, with the goal of achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- Strategic, mega, and huge projects are eligible for special packages under this strategy. This will attract new investment and create new job opportunities in the state through anchor units and current industries.
4. SEED Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Social Justice to help DNTs, NTs, and SNTs.
- Dr Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, has launched the Scheme for Economic Empowerment for DNTs (SEED) at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
- The overall financial outlay for the SEED Scheme is estimated to be around Rs 200 crores, which will be spent over a five-year period beginning in the Financial Year 2021-22 and ending in the Financial Year 2025-26.
5. Foodgrain production is expected to reach a new high of around 316.06 MT in 2021-22, according to the government.
- According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s (MoAF&W) Second Advance Estimates of Major Crop Output for the Year 2021-22, India’s foodgrains production is predicted to be 316.06 million tonnes.
