1. Dr. VG Somani, the head of the panel, will draught a new law for drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices.
- The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has set up an eight-member expert committee to draught new drug, cosmetics, and medical device regulations to replace the 1940 Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
- Dr. VG Somani, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), will chair the committee.
2. In the NIRF India Ranking 2021, IIT Madras retains the top spot in the overall category.
- On September 9, 2021, Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the NIRF India Rankings 2021 via video conferencing.
- Overall Winner: In the overall category, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has preserved its lead.
3. To expedite tax disputes, the CBDT has established three Boards for Advance Rulings (BAR).
- To enable faster case resolution and eliminate income tax disputes, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has established three Boards for Advance Rulings (BAR).
- From September 1, 2021, the BARs will be operational.
4. At the BHEL R&D Centre in Hyderabad, India’s first indigenously designed high ash coal gasification based methanol production plant was inaugurated.
- At the BHEL R&D centre in Hyderabad, the first-ever, indigenously constructed High Ash Coal Gasification Based Methanol Production Plant in India was opened.
- At the suggestion of NITI Aayog, PMO-India, and the Ministry of Coal, the project was supported by the Department of Science and Technology, which awarded a Rs 10 crore grant.

5. Tokenization in Card-on-File services is permitted by the RBI.
- The Reserve Bank of India has improved the card tokenization services in the following ways:
- To begin with, the device-based tokenization framework will now function with Card-on-File Tokenization (CoFT) services as well. Card-on-File (CoF) refers to retailers storing credit/debit card information for ease of payment. However, because holding card details online could be problematic due to the risk of data hijacking, the RBI has now approved tokenization of Card-on-File (CoF), which means that the retailer would not store the original card details and will instead store tokenized card details.
6. UCO Bank has been removed from the PCA Framework by the RBI.
- UCO Bank has been exempted from the PCA limitations, according to the Reserve Bank of India. (PCAF) (Prompt Corrective Action Framework)
- UCO bank is not in violation of the PCA standards, according to the disclosed results for the year ending March 31, 2021, according to RBI.
7. The digital platform ‘bob World’ has been launched by Bank of Baroda.
- Bank of Baroda has announced the introduction of its ‘bob World’ digital banking platform. The platform’s goal is to bring all banking services together under one roof.
- The platform’s pilot test began on August 23, 2021. Over 220 services will be consolidated into a single app.

8. The government has appointed ten merchant bankers to oversee the LIC’s initial public offering.
- The Indian government has hired ten merchant bankers to oversee the Life Insurance Corporation of India’s first public offering (LIC). The initial public offering (IPO) of LIC is expected to take place in the January-March quarter of 2022.
- Merchant bankers play a variety of roles in the IPO process, including issue management, promotional activities, credit syndication, project counselling, and portfolio management, among others.
9. Jharkhand gets a $112 million loan from the Asian Development Bank to upgrade its water delivery infrastructure.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Indian government have agreed to a USD 112 million loan to upgrade water supply infrastructure and increase the capacities of urban local bodies (ULBs) in four towns in Jharkhand.
- This is the Asian Development Bank’s first project in the state of Jharkhand.
10. The Asian Development Bank has approved a $300 million loan to help Maharashtra improve its rural connections.
- The Indian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to a USD 300 million loan as additional funding to help the state of Maharashtra strengthen rural connectivity and boost the rural economy.
- This is in addition to ADB’s August 2019 approval of a USD 200 million loan. In Maharashtra, the project is already upgrading and maintaining the condition and safety of 2,100 kilometres of rural roads.

11. Vaidyanathan’s re-appointment as MD and CEO of IDFC FIRST Bank has been approved by the RBI.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved V. Vaidyanathan’s re-appointment as the IDFC First Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (‘MD & CEO’).
- Mr. Vaidyanathan has been reappointed for a three-year term, beginning December 19, 2021.
