1. The Ministry of Power is revising its policy on using biomass pellets in coal plants.
- India’s power ministry has altered its policy on using biomass pellets in coal-burning thermal power plants, promoting the use of agricultural waste that would otherwise be burned by farmers, polluting the air.
- The decision, which was announced on Friday, requires three types of thermal power plants to employ a 5% blend of biomass pellets and coal.
2. India and Croatia have signed a memorandum of understanding for academic partnership in Traditional Medicine Systems.
- According to a statement, India and Croatia have inked an agreement for academic collaboration in traditional medicine systems, particularly in the subject of ayurveda.
- The Memorandum of Understanding with Croatia is an important step forward in strengthening India’s international ties and encouraging academic research, clinical and educational activities, medical education, training, and competency development.
3. In Uttar Pradesh, Parshottam Rupala conducts a statewide river ranching programme, using NFDB funding of Rs.2.81 crores to ranch 97.16 lakh fingerlings.
- Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, started the River Ranching Program in Brijghat, Garh Mukteshwar, Uttar Pradesh.
- The National Level River Ranching Program was launched in five states (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Tripura), with a total of 8.85 lakh fingerlings being raised.
4. For the South Central Railway, Indian Railways has launched two long-haul freight trains, ‘Trishul’ and ‘Garuda.’
- For the first time, the Indian Railways has introduced two long-haul freight trains for the South Central Railway, dubbed “Trishul” and “Garuda” (SCR).
- What is the definition of a long-distance train? These trains are twice or multiple times longer than standard freight trains, and they are a very effective solution to capacity problems in important parts.

5. RNESL, Reliance Industries’ renewable energy business, has purchased a 100% share in REC Solar Holdings for $771 million.
- Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd (RNESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has purchased REC Solar Holdings AS (REC Group), a Chinese state-owned solar power provider, for 100% of its shares.
- RNESL has purchased the REC Group from China National Bluestar (Group) Co Ltd. for $771 million in Enterprise Value.

9. Kalamkari paintings from Karuppur and Kallakurichi wood sculptures have been designated as GI items.
- The wood carvings of Kallakurichi and the traditional dye-painted figurative and patterned fabric known as Karuppur kalamkari paintings have been given geographical indication (GI) tags.
- Kalamkari paintings are done on pure cotton cloth and are commonly used in temples for umbrella covers, cylindrical hangings, chariot covers, and asmanagiri (false ceiling cloth pieces), whereas Kallakurichi wood carvings are a unique form of wood carving involving the application of ornamentation and designs derived from traditional styles by craftsmen.

- Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, known as the “Father of Pakistan’s Nuclear Bomb,” died at the age of 85.
- Dr. Khan, an atomic scientist, was acclaimed as a national hero for helping Pakistan become the world’s first Islamic nuclear state and for his efforts to improving the country’s defence capabilities.
