1. The 13th BRICS Summit is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- On September 9, 2021, Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi presided over the 13th BRICS Summit via video conferencing.
- Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, together known as BRICS, are a group of five major emerging economies.
2. The ‘Main Bhi Digital 3.0′ campaign has been launched by MoHUA and MeitY.
- The pilot programme dubbed “Main Bhi Digital 3.0” was established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- Under the PM SVANidhi scheme, it is an unique campaign for digital onboarding and training for street sellers in 223 cities.
3. In Barmer, Rajasthan, India’s first emergency landing strip on a national highway was inaugurated.
- On September 9, 2021, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari jointly inaugurated an emergency landing strip for Indian Air Force (IAF) jets at Gandhav Bhakasar stretch of National Highway-925 in Barmer, Rajasthan.
- The NH-925 is now India’s first national route to be used for emergency landings of Indian Air Force aircraft.

4. Iceland has opened the world’s largest plant to capture carbon dioxide from the air.
- On September 8, 2021, the world’s largest plant for capturing carbon dioxide from the air commenced operations in Iceland.
- Orca is the name of the plant, which in Icelandic means “energy.” It has the potential to absorb up to 4,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
5. China has successfully launched the “Gaofen-5 02” Earth monitoring satellite.
- On September 7, 2021, China successfully launched Gaofen-5 02, a new Earth observation satellite, into space on a Long March-4C rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in Shanxi Province, north China.
- Gaofen-5 02 is a hyperspectral satellite that will be utilised to strengthen the country’s hyperspectral observation capabilities of the atmosphere, water, and land for comprehensive environmental monitoring.

6. Following the merger with Bharti AXA, ICICI Lombard ceases to be an ICICI Bank affiliate.
- After the merger of Bharti AXA and ICICI Lombard, the ICICI Bank’s investment in the company dropped from 51.86 percent to 48.08 percent, and the ICICI Lombard General Insurance ceased to exist as a subsidiary of the ICICI Bank.
- The parent firm must own at least 50% of the equity in the subsidiary company in order for it to be considered a subsidiary.

7. The NPCI has launched the ‘nFiNi’ RuPay credit card stack, which will let fintech companies to collaborate with banks to produce bank-sponsored credit cards.
- The plug-and-play RuPay credit card stack, ‘nFiNi,’ has been launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with Fiserv Inc.
- Fintechs and banks will be able to co-create bank-sponsored credit cards with the help of nFiNi, which is a ready stack of services required for fintechs and banks to issue RuPay credit cards.
8. The deadline for filing income tax returns for FY21 (AY 2021-22) has been extended until December 31.
- Individuals have until December 31, 2021 to file income tax returns for assessment year (AY) 2021-22, (FY 2020-21), according to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The deadline had already been extended to September 30, 2021.
- The decision to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns was made in light of the coronavirus outbreak and ongoing website technical issues.
