1. Tamil Nadu celebrates Aadi Pooram.
- Due to the Pandemic Restrictions, Tamil Nadu celebrates Aadi Pooram in a modest manner. The birth day of Andal, a great Tamil poet of the Vaishnavite religion, is also commemorated on Aadi Pooram.
- Andal is the only female Aalvaar among the 12 Aalvaar saints of South India. She is also known as Godadevi, Nachiyar, and Kothai. The Aalvaar saints are noted for their devotion to Hinduism’s Srivaishnava tradition.
2. PM Modi announced a palm oil plan of Rs 11,000 crore to make India self-sufficient in edible oils.
- On August 9, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Edible Oil Mission-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), a palm oil development initiative.
- Through the National Mission on Oilseeds and Oil Palm, the government will invest more than Rs. 11,000 crore in the initiative.
3. In October 2021, India will host its first Internet Governance Forum.
- In October 2021, India will host its first-ever Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which will serve as a forum for addressing Internet policies.
- The three-day event, titled “Inclusive Internet for Digital India,” will take place on October 20-22, 2021.
4. The Maharashtra government has announced the Rajiv Gandhi Award for the Information Technology sector.
- As a tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s pioneering contribution in the technology sector, the state government of Maharashtra has launched a new award for the Information and Technology (IT) sector, named after him.
- Every year, the award will be given to companies and institutions that succeed in the IT field.

5. India and Saudi Arabia are planning their first-ever naval drill.
- Officials say India and Saudi Arabia are planning their first-ever naval drill as part of their burgeoning defence and military cooperation.
- The guided-missile destroyer INS Kochi of the Indian Navy arrived in Saudi Arabia for the ‘Al-Mohed Al-Hindi 2021′ exercise.
6. The upcoming Malabar Exercise will include all four Quad countries.
- The ‘Quad countries’ of India, the United States, Australia, and Japan will come together with two aircraft battle groups and a plethora of air power to carry out the complex second phase of the Malabar exercise in the Northern Arabian Sea, with an emphasis on “open, inclusive Indo-Pacific and a rules-based international order.”
- The drill will bring together the US Navy’s powerful Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, which includes a nuclear submarine, and India’s Vikramaditya Carrier Battle Group, as well as the Japanese and Australian navies.

7. India’s GIFT City The Insurtech Association has formed a partnership to promote fintech in the insurance industry.
- The India Insurtech Association (IIA), a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting India’s tech-driven insurance ecosystems, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Financial Services Centre at GIFT City (GIFT-IFSC) to work together on developing thought leadership in the field of insurance and promoting GIFT City to Indian and international insurance firms.
- The cooperation will include events, information series, seminars, and conferences to build awareness of GIFT IFSC.
8. The Asian Development Bank has partnered with IIFL Home Finance to promote green housing in India.
- In India, the Asian Development Bank has launched a green housing initiative aimed at lowering carbon emissions and conserving water and energy.
- In order to accomplish this, the multilateral development organisation has partnered with low-cost housing financier IIFL Home Finance. The ADB also intends to engage other institutional stakeholders, such as the Indian government, which has launched a large housing-for-all initiative.
9. SIDBI has launched an app-based loan platform for small businesses called Digital Prayaas.
- The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has created ‘Digital Prayaas,’ an app-based digital lending platform that would provide loans to low-income entrepreneurs.
- By the end of the day, the loan will be approved.
10. The ESFB has launched a programme for aspiring fintech businesses.
- Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd. (ESFB) has launched a one-of-a-kind programme called ‘Equitech’ (Equitas Fintech Accelerator Programme) to assist aspiring fintech businesses in receiving mentorship from industry professionals and venture investors.
- Equitech will assist fintechs in progressing to the next level and bringing their products to a more focused market.

11. India and the United States have reached an agreement to improve weather and monsoon forecasts.
- An agreement on monsoon data analysis and cooperation between Indian and American authorities has been inked in order to improve weather forecasts in the region.
- As a result, NOAA and India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences will collaborate more closely on the development of the Research Moored Array for African-Asian-Australian Monsoon Analysis and Prediction (RAMA) and the Ocean Moored buoy Network in the Northern Indian Ocean (OMNI) to improve weather and monsoon forecasts.

12. Mizoram Governor B D Mishra takes on extra responsibilities.
- Brig (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) has taken on the additional role of Governor of Mizoram. He also serves as the Governor of the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
- Due to the absence of Governor Haribabu Kambhampati, who is now on leave, the President of India has chosen Brig Dr. Mishra as the state’s interim governor.
13. Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula One driver, has joined JK Tyre & Industries as a brand ambassador.
- Padma Shri Awardee and India’s first Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan has been named as the brand ambassador for JK Tyre & Industries Ltd.

14. Governor Ganga Prasad of Sikkim has been assigned extra responsibility for Manipur.
- During the absence on leave of Dr. Najma A. Heptulla, Governor of Manipur, Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad was given the extra duty of Manipur in addition to his own responsibilities. During the absence on leave of Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh Governor B. D. Mishra was given the extra responsibility of in addition to his own duties.

15. The Maharashtra government has announced the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in Information Technology, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna as the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award (IT).

18. Balaji Tambe, a well-known Ayurvedic practitioner and proponent of Yoga, died at the age of 81.
- Dr Balaji Tambe, a well-known spiritual leader and proponent of Yoga, has passed away after a brief illness. He was 81 years old when he died.
- Dr. Tambe founded the holistic healing centre ‘Atmasantulana Village’ near Lonavala. It is one of India’s oldest and largest Ayurveda centres.
