1. PM Modi gives a virtual address to the Gujarat Investor Summit and announces the ‘Vehicle Scrappage Policy.’
- On August 13, 2021, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke through video conference at the Gujarat Investor Summit, which was organised to set up automobile scrapping infrastructure in Ahmedabad.
- PM Modi announced the National Automobile Scrappage Policy as part of the Summit. Under the Voluntary Car-Fleet Modernization Program, the new policy encourages investment in vehicle scrapping infrastructure.
2. Single-use plastic items such as candy sticks, plates, and cups will be banned on July 1, 2022, according to the government.
- From July 1, 2022, the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021, have been notified, restricting the manufacturing, import, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of identified single-use plastic (SUP) goods, such as candy sticks, plates, glasses, and cutlery.
- According to a notification dated August 12, the thickness of plastic carry bags will be increased from 50 microns to 75 millimetres on September 30, 2021, and to 120 microns on December 31, 2022. The plastic carry bags can also be reused as a result of this.
3. The Rajasthan government will give street sellers with interest-free loans.
- The Rajasthan government, led by Ashok Gehlot, has announced the launch of a scheme to grant interest-free loans up to 50,000 to street vendors, those working in the service sector between the ages of 18 and 40, and the unemployed in metropolitan areas affected by the Covid-19-induced financial crisis.
- The project aims to provide financial support and encouragement to street sellers, as well as youngsters who work in the informal sector as hairdressers, rickshaw pullers, potters, carpenters, cobblers, masons, tailors, painters, plumbers, and electricians.
4. The IBSA (India, Brazil, and South Africa) Tourism Ministers’ Meeting is held virtually in India.

5. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar speaks during the 6th SCO Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting.
- On August 12, 2021, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar used videoconferencing to address the 6th meeting of Agriculture Ministers from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
- The meeting was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, under the presidency of Tajikistan.

6. The Indian Navy participates in the SEACAT exercises in Singapore, which are led by the US Navy.
- In September, the Indian Navy took part in the Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) military exercise, which was directed by the US Navy.
- The fundamental goal of SEACAT 2021 was to improve interoperability and shared maritime security concerns while preserving the international rules-based order.

8. In July, retail inflation fell to 5.59 percent.
- According to government data, retail inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) fell to 5.59 percent in July from 6.26 percent in June.
- Factory output, as measured by the index of industrial production (IIP), increased 13.6% year over year in June, owing to strong growth in the manufacturing, mining, and power sectors.

- Unmukt Chand, the captain of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team in 2012, has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 28.

- The Defence Ministry has announced that the event would feature sixteen teams from across the country, including four from the Services.
11. India’s delegation to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo is the largest ever, with 54 athletes.
