1. Sri Lanka receives around USD 900 million in financial aid from India to help it overcome its currency crisis.
- In the face of a shortage of practically all critical commodities in Sri Lanka, India has pledged a USD 900 million loan to help the island nation replenish its depleted foreign reserves and import food.
- Ajith Nivard Cabraal, the governor of the Central Bank, stated that the island nation is negotiating a USD one billion loan from India to import products.
International News
2. India will sell the Philippines BrahMos cruise missiles.
- The Philippines, which has had several severe tiffs with China over territorial claims in the South China Sea in recent months, has finally received a $375 million (Rs 2,770 crore) deal to export BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
- The Philippine Department of National Defense has given a “notice of award” to BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd, indicating that the deal will be signed soon.

3. Axis Bank has partnered with MinkasuPay to make biometric-based net banking payments more seamless.
- Axis Bank has partnered with MinkasuPay, a mobile payments firm based in Silicon Valley, California, to provide its customers with a seamless net banking payment experience via biometric authentication.
- With fingerprint or face ID identification, transaction times will be reduced from 50-60 seconds to just 2-3 seconds, with much higher success rates.
4. White Oak Capital Mutual Fund has been renamed Yes Mutual Fund.
- With effect from January 12, the name of Yes Asset Management has been changed to White Oak Capital Asset Management.
- According to Aashish P Sommaiyaa, Chief Executive Officer of White Oak Capital, Yes Mutual Fund will now be known as White Oak Capital Mutual Fund.
5. CDSL’s arm receives approval from SEBI to establish an accreditation agency.
- CDSL Ventures Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of CDSL, has got authorisation from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to establish up an Accreditation Agency for a period of three years, beginning February 1, 2022, to certify eligible investors.

6. Power Grid joins together with Africa50 to create a transmission project in the African continent. Kenya
- Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has inked a cooperative development agreement with Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investment platform, to continue the public-private partnership development of the Kenya Transmission Project.
- The project covers the development, funding, construction, and operation of the 400kV Lessos – Loosuk and 220kV Kisumu – Musaga transmission lines under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework.
